Every year, Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London takes in thousands of unwanted animals. Some dogs demonstrate behaviours that show they would be happier if placed in a working environment rather than a family home. These dogs receive training through the Battersea Working Dogs Programme.
Battersea has over 150 years' experience working with and training abandoned dogs for service in the military. Battersea-trained dogs have taken part in both world wars and, more recently, assisting the British Armed Forces in Afghanistan, seeking out weapons, explosives and safe routes. Today, the Battersea Working Dogs Programme also places dogs with police, security and rescue services. Other dogs trained by Battersea are sent to work in medical assistance, supporting people with disabilities in their homes. Security forces and civilians alike owe their lives to what these exceptional dogs and their devoted handlers have achieved. Last year alone the Battersea Working Dogs Programme assessed and trained more than 100 suitable dogs. Each working dog costs on average £1,000 to retrain for an active and fulfilling future.
As part of our global commitment to advance canine well-being, Orvis is proud to partner with Battersea Home in a matching funds grant with a total goal of £60,000. Your contribution to the Battersea Working Dogs Programme is matched by Orvis—pound for pound, up to £30,000—doubling your donation. Your £50 donation becomes £100!
