Typical Orvis..........Outstanding! -
By: MarkMonc from Minneapolis, MN
Have been looking for a HIGH QUALITY shorter 4 or 5 weight for some time to fish the small SE Minnesota and NE Iowa streams. They're typically brush covered and under the canopy of overhanging trees so I knew (from past experience) that this rod would be a great alternative to my 8 and 9 footers. Out of the tube I was taken back by just how light the rod was but yet a few false casts in the living room suggested the backbone necessary for the job. On the stream this past weekend for the rods chirstening, I hooked up with a nice 12" brown in the second pool I fished, enjoyed the battle and brought the fish to net. The amazingly fast tip on the short/light rod took me a while to get used to as I set the hooks out of the mouths of several trout. After an hour I had the "feel" of this great rod and know that it's going to be my go to rod for small streams. I love it! By the way, I ordered it on line and got a shipping notice the next morning! Just another perfect transaction from a great company.

This rod is INCREDIBLE!!! I was worried that I was paying too much for this, but after catching a 22incher on it my first time using it, I quickly figured out how amazing it is. It has the weight of a feather, casting ability of a 12', and the precision of a rifle. I would recommend this rod to anyone who enjoys trout fishing.

my access is incredible. The weight of this rod is awsome. Caught an 12 inch rainbow as the first fish on this rod. Wow is all I can say. Casts wonderful and gets you where you want to be. A very awsome rod indeed. Thanks Orvis for another great job. This rod is a very welcome addition. I will be using this rod mostly on small streams, but not afraid of bigger water as it casts wonderful. Would highly recommend this rod to anyone who is interested in a great little rod.

Well, after using this 4wt rod with a large arbor real I can say on the small streams with tight cover casting this is know my go to, do everything, rod. I love how I can have the touch with the little guys and it handles the large fish just as well with all the control I need.

I didnt know much about the rod when I purchased it, however casting it felt great. Nymphing and long cast worked great, roll cast and short distance cast were average. The rod is very light which is good for someone looking to improve casting and even more enjoyable for someone who really wants to feel the fish at the end of their line. I'am curious to see how long and durable these rods will last as I plan on using this as my go to rod and put aside the much lower priced TFO 5wt that still works like a charm.
