    Worth the price - 11/22/2014
    By: from Charlotte, NC

Great winter jacket. I wanted something I could wear from work to the field and I got exactly what I hoped for. Got this over the Beaufort because I didn't want to have to buy an additional lining to be warm. Jacket is very durable and easy to clean.

    Great winter jacket - 10/22/2014

Great Barbour jacket! If you're looking for something for winter wear, this is the jacket for you. It's fully lined--including the sleeves-- so its warmer than other jackets that you might need to add a vest liner to. The downside of the lined sleeves is that they can get a bit tight, depending on how much you have on underneath. It's longer than most jackets, and can be worn in slightly more formal occasions, and over blazers, etc. Overall, great fit and finish.

Finally the Barbour I was looking for - 10/10/2014
    By: from Portland Or

Ok I will first give you a bit of history. I grew up with barbour jackets, I spent my spring, summer and autumn working pheasant gamekeeping in preparation for winter shoots in Ireland. My original barbour was a quilted waxed jacket hand-me down.... it was simply amazing. I wanted a jacket that could be a great hunting jacket, but also a companion when walking the dog, enjoying the wet Pacific Northwest outdoors and offer some warmth when layered up. I tried the beaufort and it was too bulky and not very warm. A good jacket but not for me. The New Gamefair is great, its very warm but not bulky. Its made in England, as most of barbours stuff is now coming out of Bulgaria. It takes the hood attachment like a dream, firm not like the beaufort. It has a very big inside pocket, think kindle , iPad, book, bottle of wine. Not a game pocket, but very handy. It has a cell phone, wallet pocket. I am 5 10 165 lbs and a medium is fine for wearing a sweater underneth The best part is it is really very stylish and cut to be modern. It looks good, the beaufort kinda looks like my Dads jacket, this one is ready for the pub or the field. Get the hood , it will also fit in that big inside pocket. Its a good shooting jacket good range for me, not noisy. it has a neck strap to stand up the color and give total storm protection Nice hand warmers a must for walking the dog. Overall its the perfect jacket.

    Second Review - 9/22/2014
    By:

My first review of this jacket was not very positive. That is because I already own several 10 year old medium Barbour jackets and they fit great. I first ordered a large in this one and it was way too small. I've now ordered an XL and it is the right fit. The jacket itself is great. It is the perfect lightly insulated jacket for me to wear in the winter over a sport coat. I'm just disappointed in Barbour that they have changed their sizing so dramatically. Kudos to Orvis however for being so wonderful about the customer service experience!

    Very Solid Jacket - 9/22/2014
    By: from San Francisco, CA

Traditional Barbour jackets have always looked a bit odd on my body type: I'm 6'4" and sort of lanky. The new gamefair seems to have a slimmer cut, longer arms, and an overall updated or modern feel. I'm quite pleased.

    Meh... - 9/12/2014
    By:

Love the concept. I own a few Barbour jackets already and the idea of a lightly insulated one I could wear in January was very appealing. However the fit is very strange. I have a 12 year old Beaufort in medium that fits just fine. I want to wear this over a sport coat so I purchased this in a large and its very tight in the arms and shoulders without ever wearing a sport coat. Great news is its Orvis so I will have them swap it for an XL and see if that works. Its just annoying that Barbour has so drastically changed.

    very comfortable - 8/19/2014

I found the Gamefair to be very comfortable in the rapidly changing weather conditions of New York City in the Fall. It is both good looking and good to wear in most situations.

Size Charts for Men's Clothing

Since 1894, J. Barbour & Sons have produced clothes perfectly suited to life in the country. Their quality, durable clothing is cut for an active lifestyle and the fit varies according to each garment's design and purpose.

The sizing of Barbour’s clothing is divided into four segments:

  • Heritage: slightly fitted, vintage cut
  • Contemporary: A slim—but not fitted—cut
  • Sporting: an active cut for comfort in the field
  • Classic: traditional, fuller cut

In the case of Barbour outerwear, sizing takes into account the appropriate layers beneath. That means you do not need to order a size up for a comfortable fit.

Barbour

Since 1894, J. Barbour & Sons have produced clothes perfectly suited to enjoyment of life beyond the city. It is this commitment to quality and durability that has seen the name Barbour become synonymous with the best of country living.

The beginning of Barbour jackets

In 1894 John Barbour established himself in the burgeoning port of South Shields, supplying oilskins and other garments to protect the growing community of sailors, fishermen, rivermen and dockers from the worst of the North Sea weather.

Within a few years the firm became the leading supplier of oilskins on the north east coast, not only to seafarers but to others in the surrounding country - farmers, labourers, carters, shepherds - who earned their living outdoors in all weathers. By the beginning of the next century Barbour’s durable Beacon oilskins were well known throughout Britain and beyond.

The legendary durability of Barbour jackets

If there’s one feature that distinguishes Barbour jackets more than any other, it is their legendary durability. But, given the quality of materials used—genuine long-staple Egyptian cotton, solid brass studs, substantial metal zips, plus painstaking quality of construction with an average of 15,000 stitches and up to two hundred components—perhaps it’s hardly surprising.

The seams in a Barbour oiled cotton jacket are double rolled, each stitched through two thicknesses of fabric. It is an intricate part of the manufacture and it ensures that the seams are completely waterproof. Even the thread is treated with the same secret watertight proofing formula as the fabric itself.

How long a Barbour jacket will last very much depends on its use (or rather abuse in many cases). Undoubtedly, owners expect much more of a Barbour than any other garment because Barbour enables them to do more. They will subject themselves and their jackets to the severest conditions of weather, mud, animal contact and abrasion than they could ever contemplate if wearing anything less robust.
