A brilliant addition to the Barbour Beaufort jacket and perfect to wear on its own. Superb service from Orvis, as always.

Loving my new vest. Looks great over a camo shirt. Nice big pockets for filling with stuff. Would recommend to other buyers. Great service from Orvis and quick delivery.

The answer for Fall weather - 8/30/2011

I found this to be a great liner that matches most of the Barbour jackets that have a sage finish. (but not olive Barbour coats) Sized accurately, they fit the jackets well and provide moderate warmth for Fall days. There is a warmer winter liner available but this one is preferred since it can be worn alone as a vest which the other cannot. Take note that Orvis sells an identical vest / liner that lacks the tartan fabric if that is your preference. The above model is what you want if you have a Border, Bedale or Beufort jacket. It is not the right one for the Northumberland or Gamefair.

The vest fits great inside the jacket. As a stand alone piece, however, it fits a bit long. Love it in the jacket though.

    Barbour Zip In - 11/6/2009
    By: from Bloomington, Illinois

Overall I think this is a great product. I gave this vest a full five star rating although I am not sure it is a good value. At 25% the cost of the jacket I believe this is a little steep for an accessory that does not provide an overwhelming amount of warmth. On the coldest days a wool sweater would be necessary. All in all, the Barbour quality is obvious and suits the jacket nicely.

    A Great Barbour Accessory - 10/3/2009
    By: from Stockbridge, Massachusetts

The Beaufort alone was just fine in mild weather and in a drizzle. However, the additional vest was a boon during the colder weather and I am delighted to have it.

Since 1894, J. Barbour & Sons have produced clothes perfectly suited to enjoyment of life beyond the city. It is this commitment to quality and durability that has seen the name Barbour become synonymous with the best of country living.

The beginning of Barbour jackets

In 1894 John Barbour established himself in the burgeoning port of South Shields, supplying oilskins and other garments to protect the growing community of sailors, fishermen, rivermen and dockers from the worst of the North Sea weather.

Within a few years the firm became the leading supplier of oilskins on the north east coast, not only to seafarers but to others in the surrounding country - farmers, labourers, carters, shepherds - who earned their living outdoors in all weathers. By the beginning of the next century Barbour’s durable Beacon oilskins were well known throughout Britain and beyond.

The legendary durability of Barbour jackets

BarbourIf there’s one feature that distinguishes Barbour jackets more than any other, it is their legendary durability. But, given the quality of materials used—genuine long-staple Egyptian cotton, solid brass studs, substantial metal zips, plus painstaking quality of construction with an average of 15,000 stitches and up to two hundred components—perhaps it’s hardly surprising.

The seams in a Barbour oiled cotton jacket are double rolled, each stitched through two thicknesses of fabric. It is an intricate part of the manufacture and it ensures that the seams are completely waterproof. Even the thread is treated with the same secret watertight proofing formula as the fabric itself.

How long a Barbour jacket will last very much depends on its use (or rather abuse in many cases). Undoubtedly, owners expect much more of a Barbour than any other garment because Barbour enables them to do more. They will subject themselves and their jackets to the severest conditions of weather, mud, animal contact and abrasion than they could ever contemplate if wearing anything less robust.

Size Charts for Men's Clothing

Since 1894, J. Barbour & Sons have produced clothes perfectly suited to life in the country. Their quality, durable clothing is cut for an active lifestyle and the fit varies according to each garment's design and purpose.

The sizing of Barbour’s clothing is divided into four segments:

  • Heritage: slightly fitted, vintage cut
  • Contemporary: A slim—but not fitted—cut
  • Sporting: an active cut for comfort in the field
  • Classic: traditional, fuller cut

In the case of Barbour outerwear, sizing takes into account the appropriate layers beneath. That means you do not need to order a size up for a comfortable fit.
