Far exceeds expectations -
By: Seabass from Northern California
The performance of this sweet little spey rod far exceeded my expectations. Speaking for myself, I often expect an expensive rod to perform at a certain caliber, and am often times dissatisfied. Same with cheapy rods, you often get what you pay for. Not the case with this rod. It was a real joy to take this rod out on the water. The construction is great, the cork much better than the clearwater single hand rods, but most importantly the performance. I used the Rio Skagit & Scandi short (recommended grain weights given by Rio) and had no problem loading the rod up with type 3-6 sink-tips and sending the line much farther than I needed. In Northern California, the rivers have an abundance of half-pounder steelhead ranging from 12-24 inches. They are often overpowered with the 6 and 7 weight spey & switch rods used for winter steelhead. I do feel this rod can easily land fish up to 10 pounds. I would say using this rod for "trout" might be a bit overkill as a 12" fish barely bent the tip section of the rod. This rod is made for very large trout, half-pounders, summer steelhead, and smaller salmon species. This rod is a ton of fun!!!
