Great Quality but cut for ultra thin -
Beautiful jacket but good luck getting one that fits. You need to be a lean military specimen as these jackets are cut for ultra thin. Also, pockets are small, could barely get my hands in them. I'm 5'10 175# with 33 waist and a Large was tight in the shoulders and sleeves. An XL would have been too long. The jacket is "MIL SPEC" so you need a "MIL SPEC" physique - Would be a great jacket for those you who do.

During my time in the USMC I wore a flight jacket exactly like this. And this one feels as good as that one did. But I had hoped it would make me look 19 again, it didn't work, lol. But the jacket it great.
Quality Jacket -
This jacket is a quality assembled product made from quality material. The fit is slim and short. I'm 5'8" with a 30" waist and 40" chest, and it fits me perfectly. However, if I were bulkier it wouldn't fit so be aware of that when purchasing. If you're taller or have a larger waist and or gut/chest it will definitely be too tight. Also if you like a looser fit jacket that has a little breathing room you may want to order up a size. I will also agree with a previous review in that it has a more distressed appearance than in the photo. This was not an issue for me, and as I have worn it every day it has started to soften up and give a more even look. This cockpit jacket is my new favorite and most used jacket..if you get the right size you won't be disappointed.
Steer Clear -

Very disappointed with this jacket. Be warned, the sizing is totally inaccurate and it runs absurdly small, which is unusual for Orvis products as they tend to run large. I’m 5” 11”, around 170 pounds with a 33” waist and medium is usually perfect. So imagine my shock when I ordered a medium of this and found I could barely fit it on. The arms and chest were uncomfortably restricting and when zipping it up (I just barely managed to do this) I felt like a stuffed sausage and looked the part too. Another disappointment was the distressing on the leather, which was done with a heavy hand and not nearly as subtle as the online photo would suggest, giving it a cheap-looking quality. Anyway, had to go through the trouble of returning it. I know it looks great in the photo, is made in the US and sounds impressive in the description, but you’d do well to steer clear of this one.
Hit or miss Jacket -

This is a nice jacket, if you get one that will fit you. I have bought Spirit flight jacket from Orvis that is similar in cut and medium fits me perfectly. My chest measurement is 45" I ordered Large size of this jacket because other review. It was hopelessly small. Exchanged it for X-large and it was small still. Finally XX-large size fits me. Jacket looks good but left hand warmer pocket is so small I can not get my hand inside. What a bummer. There must be a zero quality control at the place making these jackets. I am exchanging it for another one. It should not take this much trouble to order a jacket. Orvis, please verify your product sizing.
Didn't fit well -
By: Setterlover from Online
I purchased and subsequently returned this coat. I was hoping on replacing a 25 year old bomber coat that I love. This coat fit well in the shoulders but was tight in the sleeve diameter (I'm not a weight lifter) . I thought for the money the collar could be nicer. I didn't order another size.
Dubious Jacket -
By: BigWest from Valley Center, CA
This is an attractive jacket to look at, however, that is the best part. The leather is very stiff and upon arrival one of the sleeves had a profound longitudinal crease that I am sure will not lessen with wear for a very long time, if ever. The deal breaker for me was the fit, for a Large it was very snug and the sleeves very tight unless you have skinny arms, not normal arms. I have other Cockpit jackets that fit like a true large, unfortunately not this one, I had to return the jacket.
G1 flight jacket -
By: Psyludo from London, UK
I bought this as my original M422a, the forerunner of the G1, was getting fragile. This is good a modern interpretation. Buyers ought to bear in mind that the cut is 'military' and is narrow through the torso. The leather had been tumbled to distress the appearance and, as is usual, was stiff. But it's wearing in well, the goat leather is really tough, and is easing nicely.
