Very well written book with lots of excellent info. As with all his it his books, Mr. Shewey has left no rocks unturned as he covers everything from flies to presentation and run timing. I keep this pocket book in my tackle bag as well as my lunch bag to enjoy it while at work or on the River. A very good value.

An excellent adjunct to anyone's library of Steelhead fishing and life cycles. Written in a cogent and well thought out manner. Renewed my excitement about the species.

Just started reading it so I can't comment on the entire book. Great little book on basic steelhead fishing and east to read for the long plane ride to fishing spots.
Steelhead on the Fly -
An intriguing pocket guide that has me wanting to gear up for fishing steelheads! John Shewey provides a lot of information on fishing West Coast rivers for these game fish. He has pointers on rod/reel sizes to use, lines/tippets, the flies to use (not only larger flies, but dry flies as well), casting techniques (doulbe haul and water hauls), and waders/boots. He also provides information on reading the rivers for pools, currents, falls, and riffles to find these elusive fish. Brief descriptions for accessing various rivers and techniques to fish fot steelhead in WA, OR, northern CA, ID, and British Columbia. He also writes about the ethics and etiquette of fly fishing catch-and-release for steelhead, both summer run and winter run fish, but leaves them alone once they've begun to spawn, preserving the species for future generations. All in all, a very good informational read.

Am a novice, so this book filled in lot of ground work on tackle, flies, working water, and the lore of the steelhead. Author has good writing style, that is both entertaining and informative. Looking forward to our summer run of steelhead to see if I learned anything.
