The good, the bad and the ugly -
By: ChrisM1 from Chalfont, PA
The good - the bed construction and durability are excellent. My dog previously chewed through 3 beds before getting this one. The bad - the filling traps so much air that the bed feels like a water bed and is very unstable. The ugly - as a result of the puffy filling my dogs refuse to use the beds. When I pick them up and place them on the bed they fall off and run away. I can't even bribe them to use it with treats. My next solution is to buy memory foam mattress pads and replace the fillings. Orvis should replace the filling on future models and provide new (less fluffy) filling to existing customers.
Too bad thers is no 0 stars option -

I have purchased a lot of Orvis products over the years. This "Tough Chew" product is very disappointing. It took my 9 month old Lab puppy less than 15 minutes to chew a hole in the bed.
Too much air - had to return -
By: Keenca from Ventura, CA
I bought the L size round bed for our 50# pit bull/lab mix. Like all Orvis products it is well made and the fabric was comfy. However, even with the cover unzipped, there is too much air which makes the bed wobbly and unsteady. The air would escape when I would lie on it but it would immediately reform. Every time that my dog stepped on the bed, she felt unsteady and refused to use it. No amount of food bribery etc could persuade her. Maybe if your dog isn't as skittish as mine, the bed would work. But my dog wouldn't go near the bed! I had to return it.
Too rolly -
Ordered the medium for 40 lb boarder collie. He tried it but kept sliding off because it poofs too much around him, lots of trapped air. Now he won't go near it. It's going back. Last chew proof I got from Orvis lasted through 2 lifetimes of serious bed destroyers. Disappointed.
good quality, durable and comfy dog bed -

I purchased the small round bed in the sale, not particularly for the toughness as my dogs don't chew. But for the or is brand and quality I know comes as standard. Both my Lakeland and bedington terriers live this bed.
So far so good -

Puppy chewed through a different bed in two weeks. This one is much more durable so far!
Too Puffy - Had to Return -
After my 1yr old Goldendoodle discovered how fun it is to rip the stuffing out of his old bed, I decided it was time to invest in a chew proof bed and found what I thought would be the perfect solution from Orvis. I got the XL size for my 60lb dog, and it was huge - probably could have gotten the L, but my doodle likes to stretch out. The fabric on the outside of this bed seems great. It's thick and durable but still soft. Color was good too; exactly as pictured. The problem is that there is SO much air that gets stuck between the cover and the inside pillow. It was like a half-filled air mattress - not firm enough to lie on and really wobbly. I tried partially unzipping the zipper to let some of the air escape, and I lay down on the bed to flatten it. It was fine after lying on it for a few minutes, but as soon as I got up, it puffed up with air again. When my dog got on the bed, he couldn't keep his balance because of all the air pockets. He literally fell over when he stepped on the bed, which he took as a challenge to try to destroy it . About 10 minutes of him jumping on the bed, falling off, barking at it, and tugging on the fabric ensued. He thought it was the best game ever, but it quickly became clear to us that he wasn't going to get any rest on this bed, so we took it away. On the plus side, during his wrestling match, he did not successfully rip any of the fabric, so the chew proof claim did hold up, albeit for a short period of testing. I've read in a couple of other reviews that the air pocket issue goes away with time. But, since our dog couldn't even find a way to lie down on the bed, we had to return it.
Tough, but not tough enough -
My Jack Russell puppy made a hole in the bed within days by biting off the Orvis tag sewn on to the side. The bed is well-made and looks very comfortable, but apparently a determined dog can and will get through it. The zipper should be pulled back a few inches to allow the air to let out when the dog gets on it, otherwise (s)he will slide off of it. The company did stand by their guarantee. A replacement was sent at no charge, and hopefully, this one will have a longer life span.
