Not quite chew proof -
By: Dccopel from Oviedo, Fl
Love the bed but our rescue Golden Retriever loves it more! Had an old tough chew bed that had gone through two puppies but our new girl is something else. Orvis did refund my 1st bed and I purchased the new. Said they would refund this one and I can purchase new. They are great on their policy and I appreciate it. But don't expect a miracle bed!
Buy this bed before any other! -
By: littletomato19 from Jackson, MI
WOW! This bed has been worth every penny! Our Great Dane Duke will be a year old in 2 weeks and he's chewed his way through 6 or 7 beds before this one, we lost track. We spent WELL over the same money it cost for this bed. If we were to get a puppy again, we would most definitely START with this bed right off the bat! I've actually recommended it to several people as well. I will say that the stuffing settles pretty quickly with a 100 lb. dog so we just went to Joanne Fabric and bought a box of the fiber fill and added to the stuffing and he's very content. Other than peeing on it the first 5 minutes we put it in his pen, it does have a funny smell when you first get it, since it's been washed he hasn't tried to chew it at all. Wish we would've found it sooner!
Have this bed in Kippy's crate -
I have this in my dog's crate. My dog is a champion chewer. I think that if he tried, he could get through this bed cover with no problem. The reason I am giving this a 5 star review is because he is not tempted to chew it because the texture is wrong. Its a soft bed cover, similar to velvet, but it isn't plush enough to encourage my dog to chew the cover. I put some egg crate foam in the cover. I have found that the poly-fill inserts don't offer enough support. My dog ADORES his crate and often goes into it for some quiet time. Thank you Orvis!
Like a balloon -
By: Ruffandtumble from Herts, England
And that's so disappointing for the price - Orvis dog beds are not cheap! My setters won't go near this as the filling holds air until pressed down - the bed has the consistency of a partially deflated balloon. This means the dog has to tentatively step up, and I mean up, onto the bed and use it body weight to lie down and wait for the air trapped in the polyester to s-l-o-w-l-y expel before they can get the snuggled, supported feeling. My boys don't like this at all, so for them, the bed is ignored. I've never seen a dog bed like it. This is a shame, as the cover and zip are quality as described. I has persevered for a week but I will see if this bed can be exchanged for perhaps a memory foam one.
Sturdy bed update -

Update to my original review. After using the bed for a while now-the stuffing stays put. No bunching, very good quality. The cover is super nice, dog hair brushes or vacuums off very easily. Washed the cover for the first time, washes extremely well. Good looking product. Definitely justifies the price of the bed.
Sturdy bed -

I like this bed. At first, I was concerned about how much air it held, sitting on it myself, it was sort of like deflating an air mattress and did seem noisy. But after a few uses by our dog, it no longer holds so much air and isn't all that noisy. The dog likes it. Chewproof? Nothing is and I didn't expect it to be. I just wanted something that one quick chomp wouldn't destroy. This works very well for that. Its not used unsupervised, just for her "place" inside the house. If I walk out of the room for a moment she won't have stuffing in her mouth like cheap beds. I purchased this knowing Orvis would provide a good warranty if in fact it didn't meet my expectations as opposed to buying other brands of chew resistant beds.
Not such a "Tough Chew" -
By: Nicco from Connecticut shore
Sophie, my 1 year old pup, made quick work (2nd day) on one of the corners of this Tough Chew bed. The outer fabric feels tough enough to the human touch, and the inner liner also has a tough chew covering, but she got through both layers rather quickly. The bed itself is maybe too lofty and does not settle under her weight readily. The material makes a lot of noise when the dog is settling down, which startles her a little. The personalized lettering was not centered on the bed and the light color stitching for her name was not a good choice for a light colored fabric. It would be nice if there was a choice to the customer of the color stitching for the monogram.
Great, but…. -
I love this bed, it is very tough and soft at the same time. However, it was not tough enough for my puppy. I would recommend to my friends, because it is very comfortable, and because in case of being destroyed, Orvis will reimburse you, or will send you another one. Thanks for sending my new bed Orvis!
good and bad -
The outer cover is excellent, I am yet to find out if it is chew proof, but it vacuums well and looks smart. However the filling is far from adequate for a large dog. It is A LOT of money to pay for a product that I will be looking to immediately purchase a foam inner for in order to make a decent bed.
English Setter -

Bed construction is excellent, but seems to soft for older dog. Hopefully in future a dense foam interior will be available for same bed.
