These are perfect for the stoneflies that I tie. Just wish there were more for the price that you pay but tungsten is expensive

Great for tying nymphs and weight those where lead wire or foil is not intended to be used.

    Good nymph heads - 3/4/2013

The black beads are really more of a dark nickel which is more of an attraction. Great weighting too.

I would have given these beads five stars but felt the holes are a bit too big , also there was sharp edges sticking out obviously a manufacturing problem these are not cheap so Orvis should look into this one, having said that they do what they should do

I was very happy with these beadheads, they get the fly down deep, "{right now"{, and don`t cast half bad either.

Most of the colors are great, but as another reviewer suggests, the black is not black. Hardly the end of the world, but if you're looking for black beads consider looking at another product. The eyes are a nice touch and can be colored with a Sharpie to provide some contrast. Not a must have material by any means, but they provide an interesting look to certain flies.

    Black Tungsten Beads - 11/1/2011
    By: from Mystic, CT

Whereas these beads are labelled black, they are in fact shiny and silver. Your "black" beads used to be truly black. I use them for nymphs, specifically for my annual fishing in New Zealand. New Zealand trout ignore beads with shiny, and particularly silvery heads. The same criticism applles to all the other black tungsten beads from you in this order.

    Great Tungsten Beadheads! - 3/15/2010

Using any form of lead in your flies today is just plain old stubborn, considering all the advances in materials we have today. If you want to get your flies down to the bottom fast, throw on a tungsten bead. Makes your head flashier and they come in 4 different colors to match your flies. Sometimes black is killer when the fish have wised up to gold and brass beads. I use it with a non-toxic wired body to really get my weight up, and then just the bead by itself. The bead also imitates the air bubble that form on the naturals, so either way you look at it, it's a great addition to your fly tying arsenal. It never hurts to have a dapper looking fly box when comparing on the river.
