    Good Elk Hair - 4/11/2015

I ordered gray elk hair. Other than the color, it is very good. It flairs well for caddis, and is clean with very little under-fur. The hair has retained it's strength through the dyeing process although the color is not exactly what I wanted.

Purchased this on the Orvis "end of season" sale. Great purchase.

This is a nice evenly dyed piece of tying material. The hair seems of good quality and the color is great. The patch is small. The skin side is decidedly smaller than a credit card. I suppose it would be a great size to travel with but it does seem a bit meager.

Woeful selection of hair - 2/27/2013
    By: from Phx, AZ

Based on previous visits to Orvis brick and mortar stores, I took a chance on this online sale price for elk hair. The tips are bent and thin, the hairs stringy. Had I seen this particular clump before purchasing, I would have saved my money. Underfur is thick and the tips will not stack. Not a good buy. Trying to tie CDC Elk Hair Caddis, had to resort to my dwindling clump of elk hair. This clump is destined for the trash.
