    Batten kill Duffle - 10/8/2012
    By: from Montreal

Great product, but too heavy. It's almost half the acceptable weight on a plane (40 lbs). Can't use the gun case, as the weight would be way over the top. Great for car or private aircraft.

expensive but great quality - 8/4/2012

Bought this bag because another brand rolling duffel wheels were torn off the bag and our previous Orvis bags had held up under the same treatment. I especially like the bottom storage compartment for rods. Expensive but you get what you pay for.

    Battenkill Duffel - 3/28/2012
    By: from Dover, MA

I love the Battenkill travel gear. I have the carry on suit case and the satchel. Now the Duffle on Wheels completes the package. The Duffle is roomy and is great for fishing gear but is also a great travel bag. You can stuff so much into it without fear of breaking a zipper. Orvis also improved the the leather zipper pulls which seem to always fall off on my older carry on. Overall a great product and worth the price considering it will probably outlast me!!!

Is the Third Time a Charm... - 2/25/2012
    By: from Pine Island MN

I have purchased over 12 pieces of Battenkill over the last 25 years and have been very satisfied with the product and service until now. I purchased the rolling duffle a year ago and the first time I used it the handle was torn off upon arrival. I temperarely reattached it so it would not be hanging for the flight back. When I picked the bag up the other handle was tore off. I returned the bag and was sent a new one. The next time I used it for a trip to Canada one of the handles was again tore off when I returned home. Not wanting this to happen a third time I contacted customer service to get another bag but to also find out if this was a common problem for this piece of luggage. I was told it wasn't but a luggage rep would contact me. To make a long story short I made numerous calls and chats to customer service because I wasn't contacted by the luggage rep. I final was contacted after 2 months and was asked to send the piece back so they could inspect it and make sure this wouldn't happen again. I didn't here back and finally called the rep and she hadn't seen the bag. I explained I needed it for another trip ASAP and she sent me a new one out and said she would track the package. The bag came with out my engraving and with out my reinbursement for the box I had to purchase to send it back. I emailed this to the rep and again am still waiting to here back. In the mean time we will see if the Rolling Duffle survives this next trip...Hopefully the Third Time is a Charm!

    I was reluctant but......... - 2/1/2012

I own two other Battenkill duffles (1 large and 1 for carry-on), and both are great pieces of luggage, except one of the straps on the larger one broke off by a baggage handler. The green & brown color of the Battenkill duffles means it can take abuse without showing it. I wanted something large and with wheels. Because of the price ($425), I was reluctant. I've used it now 4-5 times, and it's without a doubt the best thing since graphite rods. The lower section is very sturdy -- for "the nice clothes" where they won't scrunch together and wrinkle. The top section is dufflle, where I literally stuff everything else -- with room to spare. It's my largest piece of luggage, so the absolute bonus is the wheels and extended handle. My arm no longer dislocates from my shoulder walking through airports. I'd get another one in a flash.

    Handle quality - 1/9/2012
    By: from Western MASS

I love the size of this duffle and it handles all the gear and clothing for an enxtended trip, BUT the first time I used it the handle pulled off from the bottom of the bag, this was done by either TSA or baggage handlers but after having many great quality Orvis luggage prodcuts, I am highly disappointed in this one.

    Just what I had hoped - 11/2/2011
    By: from Florida

I have been using the Safe Passage version of this duffel for almost 10 years and it held up very well but it has recently begun to show it's age. That isn't surprising. It is hard for any piece of luggage to withstand being tossed around by the airlines. So I decided it was time for a replacement and I wanted something a little different. This duffel in the Battenkill collection caught my attention. I had a Battenkill briefcase and love it so this seemed a good bet. It is a very handsome piece of luggage and it appears to be very well constructed. It is also exactly the design as my old Safe Passage version. That is what had caught my attention. I travel to go fishing fairly often and this design works very well for me. I the lower compartment I usually pack two to four fly rods, in their tubes, a pair of waders and boots, flies, vest, and some entomology equipment. And there is some room to spare ... for a sweatshirt or something similar. The top compartment has plenty of space for the clothing I need on such a trip And ... when I am all packed, if I have been modestly careful, the total weight is within airline limits. I am very happy with this product.

I should have bought this model - 8/28/2011

I own the nearly identical "magnum" version of this that Orvis doesn't advertise much anymore. You want the above version, not the bigger one. Anything bigger than the above model is so big it violates airline luggage weight limits causing huge overage charges. The quality and durability of the whole line is just great!

Was able to pack 66 pounds of material in this bag and it handled beautifully. Rugged but stylish.

    Travels & Hunts with Ease - 8/27/2011
    By: from Austin, Texas

I have owned this bag for about 10 years and it has rolled through airports in Argentina, London/Scotland North Dakota Mexicoand South Texas with ease. I still get complimented on its good looks both in hotels and in the field. I plan to enjoy it a lot longer! Being able to carry gear in the bottom and a lot of clothes in the top makes it the best hunting and travel bag that I have ever owned!
