I own the nearly identical "magnum" version of this that Orvis doesn't advertise much anymore. You want the above version, not the bigger one. Anything bigger than the above model is so big it violates airline luggage weight limits causing huge overage charges.
The quality and durability of the whole line is just great!,Great product, but too heavy. It's almost half the acceptable weight on a plane (40 lbs). Can't use the gun case, as the weight would be way over the top. Great for car or private aircraft.,I have been using the Safe Passage version of this duffel for almost 10 years and it held up very well but it has recently begun to show it's age. That isn't surprising. It is hard for any piece of luggage to withstand being tossed around by the airlines.
So I decided it was time for a replacement and I wanted something a little different. This duffel in the Battenkill collection caught my attention. I had a Battenkill briefcase and love it so this seemed a good bet.
It is a very handsome piece of luggage and it appears to be very well constructed. It is also exactly the design as my old Safe Passage version. That is what had caught my attention.
I travel to go fishing fairly often and this design works very well for me. I the lower compartment I usually pack two to four fly rods, in their tubes, a pair of waders and boots, flies, vest, and some entomology equipment. And there is some room to spare ... for a sweatshirt or something similar.
The top compartment has plenty of space for the clothing I need on such a trip
And ... when I am all packed, if I have been modestly careful, the total weight is within airline limits.
I am very happy with this product.,Bought this bag because another brand rolling duffel wheels were torn off the bag and our previous Orvis bags had held up under the same treatment. I especially like the bottom storage compartment for rods. Expensive but you get what you pay for.,I love the Battenkill travel gear. I have the carry on suit case and the satchel. Now the Duffle on Wheels completes the package. The Duffle is roomy and spacious....it is great for fishing gear but is also a great travel bag. You can stuff so much into it without fear of breaking a zipper. Orvis also improved the the leather zipper pulls which seem to always fall off on my older carry on. Overall a great product and worth the price considering it will probably outlast me!!!
