Renzetti apprentice -

I've been a fly tier and trout bum for 50 years. Much banter over what is "best" falls on deaf ears for me. I know what I want, need , and like. The Renzetti Apprentice vise has all the features I require to tie everything from Tricos to spinning deer hair mice. This is a good value and solid construction for anyone IMO.

I purchased the Renzetti Apprentice vice as an upgrade from my kit vise, as my skills have improved. I will probably never need another vise. The Apprentice is an excellent, USA-made product that holds hooks well, is stable and allows rotation.

Excellent piece of equipment: incredibly well engineered; clamps hooks without effort; rotation is nice and smooth; makes my fly-tying even more of a pleasure.

I started fly tying in 1988 with an Orvis Fly Tying Kit. The vise in that kit was a Thompson A vise. It did very well until a couple of years ago when the vise wore out. I bought a Renzetti Rotary vise. The rotary was a great vise, but it did not suit me well. While at my local Orvis Retail Store a couple of weeks ago saw this new Renzetti Apprentice Vise. The setup looked just like the Thompson vise, plus being able to rotate the fly while in the vise. Tried out this neat little vise. It felt so much better tying not having "to reach over" the vise to tie a fly. Really great vise for the price. Holds hooks very good.
Great vise for a resonable sum. -
I bought this a couple of months ago as my old Griffin vise finally had kicked the infamous bucket. As I am on a pretty tight budget I did'nt wanna put some very serious money on a new vise. After some reading on the net and asking around on some fly fishing forums. I realized that the Renzetti Apprentice probably would be my cup of tea. As one guy at one such forum wisely said: "It's better to buy a good brand vise of their simpler budget line than some half baked brand vise with lots of eye candy and extra stuff. This as the quality of the good brand will be just as good over the whole line." After tying quite many flies on the Apprentice I can only agree to that statement. This is indeed a very nice vice! There's absolutely nothing to complaint about. On the contrary. I would heartly recommend it to anyone on a budget looking for a best bang for buck vice. The jaws of this vice holds # 2 streamer hooks as well as # 20 dry fly and nymph hooks no problem rock steady. And the whole feeling of working with this vise is the feeling of quality. I belive this will be a vise that will be still going strong after 10 - 15 years of serious fly tying. Thanks Renzetti!
