Babour Sportsman Sweater -
By: McFarland from Salt Lake City, Utah
A few years ago I purchased one of these sweaters in size large. I stand 6' 3", and at the time weighed two hundred fifteen pounds. Typically, at that weight, just about anything in size large fitted me great; but this Barbour sweater fit more like an extra-large. After I lost fifteen pounds the fit worsened and at two hundred it draped off my frame; so I ordered a size medium and with a cotton shirt underneath it fits perfect! I've returned the large sweater to Orvis for refund. Overall, a handsome, great feeling, robust 'woolie' for wearing alone in the fall, or under a Barbour shooting jacket or tweed sport coat in the winter!

Like all Barbour products, this sweater is extremely well designed and constructed. Similar to the crew neck model, this garment is tightly knit and will probably wear well. Color is rich. The midweight is especially good for layering under a parka or cruiser. It looks as though it will wash as well as the crew necks do (I've had 2 of them for 3 years.) More than satisfied!
Superb Quality -
As advertized. Fits perfectly. Soft, non-scratchy Merino wool. English style V-neck accommodates either collared shirts or crew-neck shirts. Still new but appears to be well-made and durable. This sweater has quickly become my favorite.
Great sweater -
True to size. Great quality. Goes well with a Barbour Beaufort Classic.

Initial impressions of this are very positive. The workmanship on the stitching and finish are top notch. The sweater is ribbed with fine ribbing so it feels a little rougher to the hand than the Barbour Storm sweater. This has the true look and feel of an English country sweater, and the V-neck allows it to be worn with shirt and tie in the traditional manner.

I liked this sweater from the day it arrived. I was concerned the v-neck collar was too high to accommodate a shirt and tie, but it works very well for office wear as well as casual occasions. This sweater is very distinguished in appearance, with its contrasting shoulder pads and tightly knit dark wool body. I am tall and thin, and this sweater doesn't hang on me, which gives me a trim, neat appearance. I highly recommend this sweater.. Size runs true.

The Barbour Sportman Sweater is the best! Great quality, soft, wears well with elbow patches.

This is a nice sweater that lives up to it's billing. Especially like the cuffs and waist, they are tightly knit. The neck is a little tight for me. The material is very nice and the color too. Highly recommend.

This is a handsome, well made sweater that is perfect for the office over a tie and white shirt. The knit is tight and the finish is ribbed but polished looking (I don't anticipate the front becoming nubby). As a v-neck, the opening isn't as large as a US style of v-neck, but it works and looks goods. The cuffs are intended to be folded back, and given their length, will work accommodate a variety of arm lengths. The fit is European which is to say the sweater will look in the midsection on a slimmer person. The fit is true to size, and the color is accurately depicted in the photo. I have had many compliments since wearing this sweater. Warm , but not so substantial as to be uncomfortable indoors. The leather shoulder and elbow patches are an attractive feature.

A staple for any guy- the perfect symphony of comfort, warmth- but not over heating- and nice looks. Liked so well purchased for a second as a gift!
Since 1894, J. Barbour & Sons have produced clothes perfectly suited to life in the country. Their quality, durable clothing is cut for an active lifestyle and the fit varies according to each garment's design and purpose.
The sizing of Barbour’s clothing is divided into four segments:
In the case of Barbour outerwear, sizing takes into account the appropriate layers beneath. That means you do not need to order a size up for a comfortable fit.

The beginning of Barbour jackets
In 1894 John Barbour established himself in the burgeoning port of South Shields, supplying oilskins and other garments to protect the growing community of sailors, fishermen, rivermen and dockers from the worst of the North Sea weather.
Within a few years the firm became the leading supplier of oilskins on the north east coast, not only to seafarers but to others in the surrounding country - farmers, labourers, carters, shepherds - who earned their living outdoors in all weathers. By the beginning of the next century Barbour’s durable Beacon oilskins were well known throughout Britain and beyond.
The legendary durability of Barbour jackets
If there’s one feature that distinguishes Barbour jackets more than any other, it is their legendary durability. But, given the quality of materials used—genuine long-staple Egyptian cotton, solid brass studs, substantial metal zips, plus painstaking quality of construction with an average of 15,000 stitches and up to two hundred components—perhaps it’s hardly surprising.
The seams in a Barbour oiled cotton jacket are double rolled, each stitched through two thicknesses of fabric. It is an intricate part of the manufacture and it ensures that the seams are completely waterproof. Even the thread is treated with the same secret watertight proofing formula as the fabric itself.
How long a Barbour jacket will last very much depends on its use (or rather abuse in many cases). Undoubtedly, owners expect much more of a Barbour than any other garment because Barbour enables them to do more. They will subject themselves and their jackets to the severest conditions of weather, mud, animal contact and abrasion than they could ever contemplate if wearing anything less robust.
Since 1894, J. Barbour & Sons have produced clothes perfectly suited to enjoyment of life beyond the city. It is this commitment to quality and durability that has seen the name Barbour become synonymous with the best of country living.
