This is the third Access Rod I have owned and my first choice when fishing medium to small streams as summer progresses and the flies get smaller. I have used it for over a year now and it has enough backbone to fight larger trout but also enough flex to absorb impact if using an 8x leader with Tricos. On top of that it looks great when matched up with one of my Hydros reels. I use both a 3wt or 4wt line depending on conditions and am pleased with the casting performance of both. Great value for the price.
Timeless Quality/Service -

Orvis service and product quality are unchanged since I called to purchase my first fly fishing outfit over 30 years ago. I still have that Allrounder and its Battenkill reel. This Access 3wt is a gift and the first rod for my wife and fishing partner of over 50 years. She had the advantage of fishing my rods for several years and wanted "her own rod". I think she made a good choice.

My dad bought this rod as an upgrade from my previous 3 wt. I fish the tailraces in Tennessee a lot and don't catch monsters very often, but this rod makes them feel like monsters. This rod cast with accuracy and finesse at any distance. Great rod all-in-all. Looks and feels great with my BBS II. As always, another great rod from Orvis.
Once I used one, I had to have one. -
I was on a guide trip in the Great Smoky Mountains and Used my guides 4wt Access. I was very impressed with the rod action and cast ablity. Onece I returned home I went to the local Orvis shop and purchase myself a 3wt. If your ever in east Tennessee, look up Rob Fightmaster for your Orvis guide to fly fishing for trout.

Great small stream rod! -
I fish a lot of small streams in the Smokies and the mountains of North Georgia. This is a great rod for this type of fishing. Very good accuracy and response to a short stroke that is needed to get under those over hanging trees. Excellent backbone for those long but delicate casts on some of the tailwaters here in the South. A six inch brookie feels like a "monster" on this rod.
Love this 3 wt. -
I borrowed this rod for a couple hours of spring creek fishing and I was really pleased. I loaded this 3 wt. 8'4" Access rod with 4 wt. line and used #10 bead headed woolly buggers and caddis with droppers, all combinations worked great. This is the lightest rod wt. I've used and it was perfect for the creek I was on. A real pleasure to cast and play trout on. FUN, fun, fun.
