Access 4-weight 8'6" Fly Rod—Mid Flex

A classic all-around trout fly rod for versatility on any water.

2⅛ oz. 8'6", 4-piece, Mid-Flex Fly Rod for 4-wt. line.

The 8-foot 6-inch rod is generally considered to be the centerpiece of anyone's rod closet. Manageable on smaller water, it has the length and power to handle larger rivers as well. This Access 4-weight version offers the sensitivity to enjoy small trout and the strength to handle the lurking bruiser. Our proprietary tapers and actions developed on Helios by our rod designers takes this combination to new levels and offers a lightweight, but powerful version of this great standard. If you can buy only one trout rod, this might very well be the one you need, but at these remarkable Access prices you can afford to buy a few. An astounding price for the quality.

    Great Rod - 6/11/2014
    By: from Doylestown, PA

I recently purchased an Access 4wt. 8'6" Orvis rod. This is my 9th Orvis rod and it is great. I have two Helios 2 rods and this is every bit a good. It casts any size dry fly great and is very good with a very streamer. I would highly recommend this rod.

    NOT ENOUGH use - 5/18/2014
By: from Prince Edward Island, Canada

As the title says not enough use, mine is not used enough, but as the information says - sensitive enough for small trout yet more than sufficient to handle the lurker, which has only happened to me once. Great thrill though. This is a very 'forgiving' rod and reel combination when casting.

My new fav rod - 4/15/2013
    By: from Trondheim, Norway

I just recieved my new Access 4# 8´6" rod. It both looks and feels great. I can´t wait for the winter to let go of the rivers and lakes here in northern Scandinavia. I chose to ingrave my rod. I think the ingravement wasnt all that. Nothing Orvis could do about that though. The personalization on the reel is brilliant! 15$ well spent!

havw been looking for a new 4wt rod for about year and have looked at other top end makers rods, I called into my nearest shop in Harrogate, The assistant (James) was a great help and made my purchase a pleasure, he ask me lots of questions and asked me what reel i was using, my reel was the batternstock III, he said he would set the rod up with a reel like mine and then took me onto the field in front of the shop and let me try the rod. he then left me alone for half hour, I could of easily walked off but that was the trust he gave me. After i had cast and practiced I could not believe the extra 30-40% extra cast length. My mind was made up and the deal was done. I have used the rod on several occasions and the rod and I are perfectly balanced and in tune with each other. Dont take my word, just take a trip into your local Orvis store and ask for a demo. Fantastic rod and ideal for all my venues in the Yorkshire Dales .

    A great 4wt! - 5/4/2012
    By: from Canandaigua, NY

I really like my Access 4wt it's nicely finished and casts perfectly as a mid-flex rod. I did equip it with the Hydros power taper and it roll-casts like a dream.

    Great Investment - 1/24/2012
    By: from Ft Benning, Ga

My wife purchased this fly rid for me in a 8'6" 4wt. I have only been able to use it twice since I am in the military. Also to add I broke it being clumsy on the Davidson. But over all the best fly rod I own. No problem making short or long casts even by roll casting or against the wind. Very fast action and has no problem bringing in those 5lbers I long to stalk but also sensitive enough for those wild little brookies. Can't wait to get it back from Orvis after repairs so I can get back on the water. I have other fly rods but just refusing to use them because I know how this one is.

I just picked this rod and reel set up a few weeks ago and I am in love with it already. The local trout streams around here (NGA/TN) make this rod make it a perfect match. Went with the 5wt- and yes it is a light rod to throw. The flex is just right and craftmanship is unmatched. I have been very happy with the purchase and I don't think you can go wrong with it.
