My wonderful wife got my this rod and matching reel for my birthday and it is quite an upgrade from my last rod. And with some power taper line on it, it can cast a mile. It has a very smooth action and loads beautifully and I can't wait to take it out in the surf. Being from Vermont I have always wanted a Orvis rod and I could not be happier.

    Great Rod - 10/24/2012

I was using a 10 foot Clearwater rod for Great Lakes Steelhead but was looking for something a little lighter as your arm gets tired high sticking flies through the current. This fits the bill nicely, definately lighter with close to the same reach and at a reasonable price. I have even begun using it to swing streamers for landlocked salmon out of Lake Champlain. It is turning into my go to rod for steelhead and salmon.

    Poor Craftsmanship - 5/13/2011
    By:

Orvis denied my detailed review, apparently because I mentioned "country of origin" (which I did not--I mentioned an ocean). So rather than doing the good vs. the bad, as I did in my detailed review, I will keep it short and to the point. If you have ever owned a quality flyrod, you will be disappointed in the craftsmanship of this rod. If this does not get posted, then I will simply post pictures of the craftsmanship issues in my next one.

    beyond expectations - 4/18/2011

I ordered this fly rod by e-mail from Belgium and my daughter, who was visiting New-York, collected it there in the orvis retail store. We had a great service and they kept the rod on row. On 17 april my daughter came back from the USA with my ORVIS rod. The same day I went fishing with it and I was very pleased with the quality of this rod. Great lightness, very precise in casting and very pleasing when catching a fish. I took my first rainbow trout with the rod yesterday evening and I was amazed that even with the tip -flex action, the rod bended very nicely when playing the trout. The only negative thing is the missing of a little ring to hook your fly in when moving to another place. I am sure that this rod will give me lots of fishing pleasure in the years to come

Awesome rod and great customer service! - 11/24/2010

First I must comment on the costumer service. EXCELLENT!!!!!! They went out of there way to get me this rod in time for a steelhead trip. Thanks! Now, as for the rod, its second to none. Light, smooth, beautiful and well priced. It casts like a dream and is light as a feather. Never knew it was my steelhead rod. Much lighter than my old one. As far as the looks, i wasnt sure i was going to like it, but after I got it I was very pleased. My gold Battenkill large arbor goes great with this rod. It is the ulitmate set-up for the great lakes tribs steelhead! Thanks Orvis for a great product at a super price.
