No trip to Yellowstone would be complete without fishing one of the area's famed spring creeks, and no angler should hit those waters without light tippet, long leaders, plenty of baetis patterns, and the Superfine Touch 764-4. Perfectly designed to help you outsmart those educated fish with delicate presentations and realistic dead drifts, its soft action handles flies gently, yet provides enough power to make any cast or turn the head of any trout. From leader-shy brutes to drift-altering mends, this is the ultimate in spring creek dry-fly rods. 2⅛ oz. Made in Manchester, Vermont.

Very high quality rod -
By: Vadims from Hastings
First one would like to say, very best service from Orvis and also communication! Rod very light, sensitive, high quality cork handle, think that best for small rivers and DT types lines. Only think that original price is too high for this rod but with reduction will say that best buy for everyone who love fly fishing!!!
Excellent Fly Rod -

I used my new Superfine Touch rod for the first time today. It was faster than I expected for a full flex rod, and still had the ability to protect the light tippet that I normally use. The smooth feel was impressive. It was everything that Orvis advertised. The rod exceeded my expectations.
Nice small water rod -

I wanted to obtain a shorter rod for those smaller tree-lined streams and had eyed this for a while. The nice discounts caused me to take the plunge. I had even eyed the lighter 3 weights, but worried they would be too tiny. This four weight seems to be a as light as most fisherman would need. It is a beautiful rod that seems to cast effortlessly. I can't wait for the spring to get out on the water.
Best Rod I've ever purchased -

I gotta admit, the guys at orvis did a great job in creating this outfit! So far I have been able to cast it on the lawn only, but i sure does a great job! The rod almost doesn't weigh anything, the Battenkill reel looks great on that rod and I like the sound of it as well, and the line is just as smooth as silk! Many people discouraged me from buying an outfit online withouth actually having it in hand beforehand, but I trusted Orvis with this and did not get disappointed after all! Great job Orvis and thanks for a worldclass customer service!
SUPERFINE FLY ROD REALLY IS ONE -
By: 16GAUGEFAN from PENNSYLVANIA
I have been a fly fisherman for trout since 1975 and always wanted an Orvi fly rod. My wife "insisted" I buy one a few year back in 2010 and since then, I have used this rod exclusively. It is one of the finest rods ever and for small to medium stream, the best. I am planning on either a 81/2 or 9 foot 6 weight for the larger streams in the near future.
Great purchase ! -

I have several fly rods but feel like this one could be used for any application. Works well in large rivers as well as small mountain streams. Easy to use in tight spots.
Perfect in all ways -

Got this rod for smaller creeks back East. The full flex is very smooth in tight places. The casting took a few times to get use to being the noodle it is but once you understand the make-up of the Superfine it's the only rod to creek fish with, period. I would say its my go to rod now. Love it!
Is there a better small stream rod out there? -
By: Troys from Neenah WI
I have a few of the other SFT rods but I feel this particular model is the sweet spot in the lineup. Long enough to mend well when you find yourself on a slightly larger river yet short enough that you aren't hung in the trees all day. Nice soft action that is well liked for dries but enough backbone to throw an indicator rig. If you fish in the east or central part of the US where streams run smaller, this could be your only trout rod. Jack of all trades, master of most, I think that about sums this rod up. Beautiful craftsmanship as is always the case with the good folks at Orvis. Best gear and best service in the business!
Brook trout model -
By: Bullfrogged from VT
I think this what Orvis used to call the Brook Trout model. I received this as a high school graduation gift in 1991 and it is still one of my favorite rods to fish with. As a matter of fact, this was the only rod I had with me when attending SUNY Oswego in the early to mid 90's. This 4 wt has landed more than 50 kings in the Salmon River, Sandy Creek and other tributaries running into the southeastern side on Lake Ontario. A few large browns too. I almost failed out the semester I found those fish (family still teases me). This rod WILL protect a light tippet. I never used more than an 8 lb tippet, even on Kings up to 30 lbs. Yeah I had to run up and down the stream and it was great! I never had an issue with it other than needing to be re-wrapped in the off season. Now I have a stable of nice fly rods in various lengths, weights and tapers. I'm going to fish this 21 yr old rod this afternoon on the White River in Hancock Vt. Perfect choice.
Orvis Superfine Touch #4 7,6ft -

I own several Orvis fly rods. From the Superfine Trout Bum series I favour the 4wt 6.6ft and the 5wt 7.9 ft. The SUPERFINE TOUCH series has the classical unsanded blank and maroon wraps with golden tippets. Somehow the cosmetics remind me of the old Scott G series. Anyhow, the new SUPERFINE TOUCH rods look very nice. The reel seat is made from rootbeer stained maple wood and a golden uplock. BUT: The cork could be better in this price range and the nice unsanded graphite rod tube comes with a cheesy adhesive sticker! This is why I would like to rate them a 4 star and not 5 only in cosmetics - not casting etc. I went to a German Orvis Dealer (ADH,Peine) who has the full series of the new Superfine Touch fly rods for casting (!) as well as a casting pool stocked with trout. I brought several flylines for testing the 4wt through 6wt Superfine Touch rods: ORVIS SUPERFINE in 4,5,6, Airflo Sixth Sense in 4,5,6, ORVIS EASY MEND in 5,6 and the new HYDROS 3D Trout in WF4. I think the earlier Trout Bum rods generate a higher line speed though and are more medium fast. The new series I woul call medium. Also they feel incredibly light in hand. The SUPERFINE TOUCH is very similar to the original ORVIS SUPERFINE series in action, especially when I looked at the 4wt rods. This is very true for the 7ft. The 4wt in 7.6ft has the delicacy of the original series plus a little bit more power for small weighted nymphs/ larger dries. From the whole series I liked the following rods best: 4wt 7ft with Superfine WF 4line 4 wt 7.6ft with Hydros 3D WF 4 line 6wt 9ft with Airflo Sixth Sense WF 6 line I bought the 7.6ft because it seemed very versatile to me.
