Thought it was made to last? -
By: Rosie5 from Rochester, NY
I love the style of my Barbour jacket and fully expected it to last for many years when I bought it less than 2 years ago. Unfortunately, the internal seams in the handwarmer pockets started to come apart after 1 year and the external pocket seams came apart last year. Disappointing, considering the price and reputation of the Barbour brand (this jacket was made in England)-- and it is really only a spring and fall jacket in the Rochester area. I still like my jacket, but it is looking considerably more tattered than I expected.

Barbour sizing is definitely on the small side so take heed of advice from previous reviews....I initially ordered and returned The Poet Jacket due to sizing. Unfortunately when I tried to re-order two sizes up it was out of stock. However I decided to purchase The Beadnell Utility Jacket in size 10, which arrived today. It's perfect because I can wear a sweater underneath without restriction of movement. I'm a 110lbs but I'm not 'lost' in this jacket by any means. I wanted a classic sporty look and The Babour Beadnell has it all...I also purchased the hood, which I know I will use. Best to get a good match from the get-go if you're thinking of doing the same. The quality of this jacket is econd to none.
Love the jacket! Felt great the minute I put it on. Purchased it for a trip to Europe where it will protect me from rain and cold. My husband has owned Barbour and he explained that the waxy feel goes away with use. I ordered my actual size which fit perfect and will allow for the zip in liner or heavy sweater. I bought the snap on hood as well. Well worth the $ investment.
A Great Investment. Totally Worth It -

This jacket is absolutely amazing. I have been seeing this jacket, and after some thought and research, I finally caved and got one. I bought it during the summer and have been waiting for the fall season to come so I can finally break it out. I love how versatile this jacket is. It could be worn on a cool night at a football game or used when you're out exploring. It's sturdy, warm, and stylish. Thank ya Barbour!!!

This jacket is perfect for all weather, if you want a hood order at the same time. This assures color match. Also purchase a lining.
What a great jacket -

There are still stores that sell great quality without cutting corners. Orvis is one of the few left. The Barbour line is second to none.
Arms TOO Short -
By: Shae from San Francisco, CA
I tried the 10 and the fit was good but the arms were too short. So I tried the 12 and the arms stayed the same length practically and the body expanded in width only. I really wanted to love this jacket but with short sleeves and no claps to clothes them tight, it ended up being a total fail for me. Unfortunate they dont extend the length even by an inch when going a size up and put claps on the wide opening of the sleeves.
Best Jacket I Own -

This is an excellent jacket. The fabric is light weight (compared to wool), drapes well with a tailored fit.. I ordered one size up because I like my jackets a little looser. However it still has a very slimming profile. The sage color goes with so much.

The Barbour Sporting Classic Beaufort Jacket: A jacket that will last for years — even decades — with yearly reproofing.
Your Barbour Jacket — A Great Value that Lasts for Years
With regular reproofing your waxed cotton Barbour jacket will remain waterproof through many years of faithful wear—Barbour receives vintage jackets of thirty, forty, even fifty years of service for reproofing and repair.
Reproofing: the Process that Preserves the Outstanding Quality of Your Jacket
Waxed cotton is made waterproof by impregnating the cotton fabric with a wax specially formulated for the maximum water-resistant qualities. Also called oiling, waxing, redressing, or waterproofing, reproofing is the process of re-applying the wax to keep your jacket fully waterproof and wind resistant. Reproofing helps to protect your favourite jacket from severe elements while rejuvenating and restoring the garment, thus prolonging its years of effectiveness.
Yearly Reproofing Is Best
It’s best to reproof your jacket yearly, especially if you subject it to robust use in the field, where regular conditions include heavy weather, mud, and abrasion. Garments should be cleaned with cold or lukewarm water to remove any mud or debris before being brought in for reproofing. Simply hose down or rinse in a shower, using a soft brush to remove any mud or debris.
How to Submit Your Jacket to Barbour for Reproofing
We highly recommend that you bring your Barbour jacket in to your local Orvis store when it needs repair or treatment. Our retail associates will be happy to take down your information and send your jacket off to Barbour’s UK headquarters for reproofing.
If you don’t have an Orvis store near you, the Barbour website has a form for requesting reproofing as well. For more information, please visit: Barbour Repairs & Reproofing.
