Sizing Information for Orvis Women's Clothing

Orvis women's clothes are cut generously to accommodate the active, country lifestyle. In addition, we build plenty of “wearing ease” in all our garments to ensure you will enjoy them for many years. We field-test all our clothes on Orvis associates, and we take into consideration how the clothing will be worn. For example, when we fit women's outerwear, we always size it with the appropriate layers beneath. That means you do not need to order a size up for a comfortable fit.

Not sure what size to order? Just chat, e-mail, or call 0844 557 4188 to reach our Customer Service experts. They will be happy to give you the actual garment measurements for any item we sell.

How to Measure

Women's SizingIn all instances, hold tape firm and level, but not tight.
a. Hat Sizes: Using a flexible/soft tape measure, start 1" above the ear. Follow around head, staying 1" above the ear. This will give your most accurate reading. Then refer to the chart for size.

b. Bust/Chest: Wrap a tape measure evenly around the fullest part under your arms.

c. Waist: Wrap a tape around your natural waistline, or where you actually wear your trousers.

d. Seat/Hip: Standing with your feet together, measure around the fullest part of your hip (approx. 7-8" below the waist). Don’t forget to keep the tape level.

e. Inseam: Best taken from an existing pair of trousers you like. Measure along the garment inseam from the crotch seam to the hem.

f. Glove Hand: Measure all the way around the flat part of your hand, excluding the thumb, and around the widest part at the knuckles. Refer to sizing on product page to convert this measurement in inches to your corresponding glove size.

India Hand Block-Print Fabric

The ancient art of hand block-printing

In the desert regions of Jaipur, artisans craft each one of our block-printed jackets by hand using centuries-old techniques that have been passed down for generations.

The Skill and Precision of Hand Block-Print

The process begins with the hand carving of a pattern’s design into wooden blocks. This laborious process must be repeated more often than one might imagine. Each block is used a mere 300 times before the precise lines become blurred. The old block is then discarded and a new block is carved. With the elaborate, delicate designs Orvis commissions for our jackets, the carvers are kept busy year-round.

Fabric is printed by hand using the same skill and precision. With a steady hand and even steadier patience, artists dip the block in dye and then apply the design to the fabric, taking care each time to line the patterns up. This is a skill few can master and the printers who excel in this talent are highly valued. The dyes are also made by hand, the dyers’ art being in the imaginative blends of earthen, vegetable and mineral contents they concoct to create the vivid reds, blues, greens, and yellows that are used for our fabrics.

Orvis Block-Printed Clothing: Each Piece a Unique Artistic Creation

Our block-printed jackets, vests, and skirts are truly works of art; every piece is unique, created by a cooperative of some of the most talented fabric artisans in the world. We are proud to share in this tradition of excellence by offering authentic hand block-printed clothing.
