Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic reel I love fishing with this reel. Not only does it look great and is relatively light but the drag holds up well in a good fight and gives all the resistance you need to bring in those feisty salmon and steelhead (I have a titanium-color Access IV reel) Very good quality reel for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Trout love this reel I have the original Pflueger mid arbor reel as well as a couple of the Orvis mid arbor reels. This latest improvement is light and is perfectly balanced on a very light 9 Wt rod. Looks great in the black nickel finish and I have received many compliments from the trout. Really like this reel except for the reel handle which is too small and slippery. I know the addition of a little bigger non-slip handle might add additional weight but I find my finger trying to locate the handle.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Nice Reel The Access V is a great reel. Fit is excellent. The new handle is great. I don't mind the mid-arbor design, I'm happy about the amount of backing I can put on this reel, and find I can retrieve line as fast as I normally walk - which is fast enough for my fishing. I'm using it in saltwater and it has given me no problems. I'd like it more if the spool was ported to make flushing it a more simple process, but at this price point I can't expect to get everything I want. I have only one complaint and it's minor: "Black Nickel" is actually gunmetal grey. I can't find a photo anywhere that suggests "grey" and I was a bit disappointed in the color - but not in the reel. It's isn't the fanciest reel I own but it's a solid performer, I use it whenever I don't want to worry about destroying an uber-expensive reel, and it gives every indication that it's going to last a long time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great mid-level reel I purchased an Access III for my 5 and 6 weights last fall and was pleased enough to purchase an Access IV for my 8 weight. Drags are smooth with low startup inertia. Plenty powerful for slowing and turning fish. Recently put the drag of the Access III to work against 15-20 pound carp, worked flawlessly. The Access IV has been put to work on pike and performed well, though pike aren't known for blistering runs. My only complaint is the lever for the spool release. I have found the springs for the release to be too stiff, and the lever too small or not filleted enough. The lever can be painful to cold fingertips. This is a small gripe though. I have not seen any better value in a mid or large arbor reel at this price point. I cannot say enough good things about Orvis' customer service, especially the folks at Orvis Royal Oak, Michigan.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Slick This reel was a gift along with the Recon rod and it really has a pleasant drag that is adjustable as well as it just looks awesome. I don't see the need to buy a more expensive trout reel than this. I am pleased with its performance after owning the reel for 3 months
