I have purchased a few of the Hydros reels in sizes I-IV. I use them for eveything from small brook trout to salmon. They are smooth running and stylish and I have never had any issues with any of them over the years. They are a great buy when you can purchase them on sale.

This reel has very close tolerances and a superior finish. The notches on the drag knob allow to preset your drag. Depending on the size of fish hooked you can increase your drag to a predetermined dot depending on the tippet you used. Also the drag is very smooth and constant. I highly recommend this reel.
Best Fly Reel on the market today -

I Fish 200 days a year and own about 15 Fly Rods and Reels. I own four of the Hydros II Reels along with several other high dollar brand fly reels. The Hydros Reels are by far the best Fly Reels I have ever used. The Drag System is second to none. When I head to the water these are the ones I take with me.
Hydro Large Arbor III -

When I got my shipment, the parcel was so light my first thought was that Orvis sent me the wrong order. It is indeed one of the lightest reels I have ever owned. Balances nicely with my 5wt. nymphing rod. Very smooth drag too! Love it!

Great reel for the price, super smooth drags system and easy to adjust. Only downfall is no extra spools available from Orvis.
Hydros II Large Arbor Reel -

I have just added this reel to my small collection. At first, I thought it may be a little heavy for my 9’- 4 wt rod, but it is a perfect balance. If you want to feel a smooth-as-silk drag, this reel has what you are looking for. My friend, who has all super high end equipment, after using this reel, told me he would be adding this reel to his arsenal.

Orvis Hydros IV -

The reel is ok, but they discontinued either entire reel or at least spools. That is big negative point to finding it in the future of to finding spare spool. I pull the reel out of the box and right away had some problems to put spool back to the reel. That tells me there may be some mechanical issues. The drug control is ok, but I guess only to right handed roll, or may be I didn't figure out how to make it work for left handed. All in all it has pretty good filling. I still yet have to check it on the waters. So my review may change in the future...
Work Horse Reel -

I bought the above reel for my most used rod which is a 5 Wt. This is the first time I have bought a stack drag reel! always bought drag systems that I was more familliar with. In short the drag on this reel is the smoothest I have. The Hydros also provides great balance which I find important to my cast. The Hydros has become my most used reel. Get an extra spool as you will like it's performance on a couple of line weights.
