Fine jacket but... -
I received one of the Orvis N-1 deck jackets two Christmases ago. It's a good jacket except for one significant omission from the original:A cord at the waist to tighten against cold air blowing up. I put one in my coat and it immediately became more comfortable. I notified Orvis of this but from the pictures they ignored what I said. Too bad.
Nice coat but a really odd fit. -

I love the coat, but hate the fit. My father was a WW II sailor, spent 22 years in the navy, and always had one of these coats around the house. I bought it out of nostalgia and it didn't disappoint on that score. It looks just like the old navy deck coats and is warm and comfortable. An XL always fits me. I have longer arms and bigger shoulders. I ordered the XL and it was way too tight to be comfortable. I sent it back for the XXL. This one fit my shoulders and arms fine, but was way too big around the waste. I could take six inches out of the waste no problem. I like the coat enough to keep it anyway, and maybe take it in to a good tailor to have it brought in around the waste. But unless you really have a hard spot for a coat like this, or have a more rotund physique, I'd pass.

I'm between a Med and Lg,and this in a Lg fits great. Just Lg enough I can wear added warm under it , and not too bulky. Would have liked an inner pocket though. But perfect otherwise !
Nice, warm fall jacket. -

On the website this appeared to be a foul weather jacket , USN circa 1950-60"s enlisted man's version. In reality it is a copy of an officers model same vintage. I am 5'9" and weigh in at 195, the large size is a perfect fit in length, sleeve and body. I have worn it on a cold day in East Texas, and it is warm enough in this climate. No inside pocket or lined outside pockets. All in all, a well made copy of an original, nostalgia overrides the hefty price tag and I give it 4 stars.
Great, rugged jacket -
Cool jacket, warmer than expected but the cold tend to creep up from below as there is no way to adjust width around the waist.
I returned it -

First off, I was really looking forward to receiving this jacket. Right off the color was not a washed military green, it's CELERY. I am 6'2" and 215lbs. and kind of straight up and down, no belly. The waistband has no elastic to draw it to the body. The wind blows right up from the bottom. That flap and button thing, come on, they look like some kind of fashion item. The flap is too wide and buttons are too big Yes, I'm disappointed. I really wanted to love this jacket. I'd like to see it in a washed OD green and OD buttons along with elastic in the waistband some where, sides or back and move the flap to the inside and forget the buttons. Then you'd have a guys jacket for winter. That's my opinion, ought to yours. And another thing. When guys write in that" I get so many compliments from women on my jacket " you can bet sales will be weak. Women will dress guys like goof balls if you let them. Make those changes and you will have a winner. You're welcome
Almost Perfect -

The only flaw in the jacket is the absence of an interior pocket for carrying wallet, cell phone and such when outside pockets are being used for carrying items or keeping wearer's hands warm. Nice jacket!
Almost Five Star -

Got this jacket for a Christmas present (after many not-so-subtle hints). I am 5'9" and 190 lbs. Generally I take a medium, sometimes a large. Got this coat in a medium. I agree with other reviewers that the cut is a bit boxy. The trim on the medium is perfect for me, but the fit is a bit snug. Since it is a winter jacket, snug is warmer than loose. The medium was a bit tight to fit a medium weight sweater, but it is a warm jacket. In New England's "Arctic Winter" this year, this was a very warm coat and mostly windproof. I am very pleased with this jacket and would recommend it. No interior pocket or drawstring keeps it from being five stars (not always important, but, like a parachute, when you need one, you REALLY need one!)

The jacket is an exact replica of my Navy deck coat of 52 years ago. How cool is that!

Purchased the Navy N-1 Coat and I'm very pleased with it. Like all standard navy-issued clothing, it's well made of high quality material, roomy and comfortable. If you wanted a custom fit, you could always have it tailored at a naval base tailor shop when in port. This is an authentic Navy look and fit.
