Orvis Rod Rescues Disgruntled Hacker -
Thanks Orvis, I'm excited again to go fly fishing. What a difference this Orvis fly rod has made in my casting. I'm truly thrilled and plan to buy one for my wife also. Here's why... I thought I was hopeless. I admit I'm a hacker. A lifetime of spin fishing with its lifetime of deeply embedded casting habits wasn't helping and after considerable effort, this hacker was ready to give up. But after using someone else's Orvis rod for a bit and then going back to my rod, I realized part of my poor casting was due to my poor quality, cheap, "starter" fly rod. I love cheap, but the tool does make a difference. After researching rods with terrific help from an Orvis representative, I purchased the Orvis Clearwater 4-weight 8'6" which is about 1'2" longer than my starter rod. The 9 footer is a bit long for me. I (wisely for once) listened and added the Clearwater Large Arbor Ii reel and backing with fly line which Orvis put on for me (a huge relief). It arrived right on time. It came in a nice, well thought out protective carrying case, and was easy to get out and put together (and later, take apart and return to the case). I promptly brushed up a bit on technique and was amazed at my obvious improvement in just one self-practice session with this rod. It is a beautiful rod and the action is very true and reliable, so that bend in the rod that is such a key for casting is just perfect (I now realize). I have more to learn, but my technique is much sounder right off the bat and my confidence is through the roof! So now I find myself MAKING time to get out and get that fly in the water and I can concentrate on other things while fishing. Like I will be tomorrow!!

Great action, so so finish -
By: Steve9832479 from England
Picked this up when I started flyfishing again after a 20 year break. The action is great and wipes the floor with the high end rods I used 20 years ago, it can throw tight or open loops at will and is perfect for stalking rivers with a single dry or nymph. The only problem is the finish, while the epoxy is a bit uneven it is passible, whats not up to scratch is the handle which contains far too much filler - its actually one of the worst I have seen on any rod and is disappointing on a mid range rod. Orvis, you have a great blank, please consider spending a couple more pounds to put a decent handle on this rod.
Fantastic Rod! -

I got this as a replacement to my first rod, which was a Hobbs Creek 8'6" 5 wt. This rod is hands down amazingly better. The first time I took it out, my casting was so much easier and accurate. I was amazed at what a difference it made. The weight is also fantastic, it feels like nothing in your hand. I only wish I had the money to get a Recon or Helios but for the cash, it would be tough to beat a Clearwater. I will be buying another, in 6 or 7 wt.

Well I thought I'd never pick up a better rod than the last orvis I bought but I was wrong again. Lovely action from this Clearwater rod that presents my tiny flies with ease. At 8'6" I needed a rod just a bit longer as I've changed from fast running water to slow to steady stream fishing only this year. Paired with my large abour Orvis 4 reel this works great. My friend tried it out in the afternoon for an hour or so and was very impressed with the whole setup. Great rod from Orvis with the no quibble guarantee of 25 years. Sorted.
best fly fishing experience ever -

the clearwater 4 weight 8'6" package is a dream ! I caught fish with my son the first trip, easily! I love the rod 's reaction time at the strike, its very smooth, and I was able to accurately cast wherever and however I wanted. I am very impressed, I'd fish this rod in much larger water than what I fish in and feel comfortable easily. I like the rod, reel, fly-line, essentially the whole package. It was one heckof of an investment in my fishing arsenal. Its the best bang for the money of any package IVE EVER SEEN IN FLYFISHING.... It does what it says! gahunter

absolutely phenomenal rod for the price. I have yet to hit the river and not pull something out with this rod and the best part is how incredibly affordable it is
