    A great little 3wt! - 5/19/2015
    By: from Sewanee< TN

I have had my clearwater 3wt for two years now. I have fished it in freestone stream of east TN. I landed some nice brookies up in the mountains and some 12-14 inch rainbows in the Tellico. Last night I went bream fishing on a local pond. I was casting a size 8 popper with a bream killer dropper 35-40ft with ease and a small wooly bugger 50-60 ft. I landed a 10in crappie, a bull bluegill and 2 14in bass with no problem. The rod is fun to fish! The best part of Orvis is the warranty! I recently sent a 20 year old 5wt clearwater back and no questions where asked, The rod repair team has bend over backwards to upgrade my rod. The rods are great, the action accommodates a relaxed casting style and customer service is unparalleled!

feels really well balanced - 4/13/2015
    By: from Anchorage AK

Haevn't fished it yet, but I put the outfit together and it feels really well balanced, I was hoping for maybe a little slower action, but I prolly should buy glass for that. This is my dedicated Grayling rod and I think it'll be just about perfect.

    By: from spring, tx

if you are looking for a great 3wt, this rod should not be over looked! it is very easy to cast and has enough backbone in it to pull in those occasional big fish. I caught a 3lb largemouth on this and boy was that a great time! i would recommend this rod to anyone looking for a great light weight rod, without breaking the bank! You definitely get more than you pay for in this rod!

    Best in Show - 11/3/2014

I have been fishing Orvis fly rods for many, many years. Quite simply, I have never found any fly rod that performs as well. When my grandchildren slam car doors on the rods, the company instantly stands behind their warranty and issues a prompt replacement. It's refreshing to see this type of service today.

Introduction into lightweight rods. - 9/24/2014
    By: from Edinburgh, Scotland

I bought this rod in the spring, used it all year when the winds were light. Dries, nymphs and soft hackle spiders. Used primarily on many a small feeder burns of Scotland and a few small chalk streams in England. I love the feel of the rod, it has taught me so much about my casting stroke. As a big ex hockey player I tried to solve most casting issues with power, this 3 wt rod rewarded a slower softer cast with distance and gentle presentation. The rod does everything it says. And it looks good too, utilitarian, aesthetics centred on function. Catching a 2 pound wild brown trout in a stream no deeper than my knees was the highlight of a fantastic year, look forward to many years of enjoyment.

Fantastic general purpose light weight rod - 7/12/2014
    By: from Dallas, TX

I have had the 3 wt clearwater rod for about a year. I use it on small streams and ponds for bluegill (biggest at 10 1/2") and largemouth bass (biggest about 4#). I can comfortably cast flies as big as #2 gurglers, though that is pushing this little rod. The pictures below are of bass and bluegill caught using #6 wooly buggers and soft hackle imitations of damselfly nymphs. With the smaller flies I can easily reach 50+ feet, though most casts are shorter. This rod is fantastic. The only issues I have had was when a 3 foot gar jumped and broke the tip (my fault but Orvis honored their warranty) and the cork has suffered from seriously bad pitting. I filled it with wood dust/elmers glue mix, sanded it and stained it and it works as good as ever, though I am sure Orvis would have honored the warranty again. I highly recommend this rod.

This Little Rod Is A Fishing Machine! - 6/7/2014
    By: from Bend, Oregon

This is my 12th Orvis rod purchase in the past 30 years and I could not be more pleased with this marvelous fly rod. The new Clearwater taper is so close in performance to the mega-buck Helios that I no longer buy the expensive image rods... and the fish don't seem to care! Matched with the right reel, this ultra-light 7.5' length rod is great for effortlessly throwing flies -- literally the perfect small-water trout rod. I fish in Oregon and Washington for trout, steelhead and salmon. This Clearwater 3-weight, along with my Clearwater 5-weight and a Clearwater 7-weight spey rod takes care of every species available to me in the Pacific Northwest. These new Clearwater rods are absolutely the finest fishing tools available for the price. Rather than buying status gear, spend your money wisely on fishing trips... you'll be very glad you did.

Just got it and took it for a test. Overall, this is a very good looking rod, great finishing touches and elegant design. As far as casting goes, it behaves well and has more power than anticipated. However, it needs a bit more line than I had expected to load.
