Swirling stripers and shimmering steelhead don't stand a chance against its power, smooth action, and fish-turning ability. Saltwater reel seat with cork-and-EVA foam fighting butt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Love This Rod! I bought the Clearwater as a backup rod but after having fished with it, I know that I will be using it a lot more than that. I've used it twice since it arrived, and caught fish both times, including the largest bass that I have caught to date. The Clearwater is a little slower than my Sage and I was concerned that I might not like the action, but I find that I really enjoy having a rod with a softer feel. The precision is great, and I feel as if I can place the fly exactly where I want. I am also very impressed with the quality. It is better than I would expect from a rod at this price. The finish, hardware and cork appear to be as good as rods costing twice as much or more. It is just too pretty and casts too well to be relegated to "backup" status!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful! I just took my 9 weight 9' clearwater rod on her maiden trip and couldn't be happier. Like my other clearwater rod (6 weight) it handles well, has great balance, and is just fun to use. Can't wait to save up for my next purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value Orvis quality and Orvis guarantee for very un-Orvis price. This is my second 4 pc, 9 wt Clearwater rod. Had to get it. My wife keeps using my first one!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly Recommended I own eighteen fly rods from 3wt to 9wt, six of them are Orvis rods. i am also a guy that prefers a moderate fast action over fast action simply because it puts less stress on my joints and feels better for my casting stroke. When I purchased the Clearwater 9wt I already owned a Clearwater 6wt that I really liked, so I kind of knew beforehand what to expect. What I didn't expect was how much I would like this rod. I own an Access 8wt, it's a great rod but a little fast. I like my Clearwater 9 wt better. The first time out in the surf I lined it with Outbound Short Intermediate and was casting a few wraps short of the backing. OBS is a 100 ft line. Whoa! The only caveat I have is that because of the flex, this rod has less lifting power compared to faster rods like my Access. Fish fight big on this rod so be prepared for some battles. One last comment about these reviews. I understand why someone who breaks a rod would give a poor review, but no manufacturer or model rod out there is immune from this problem. Many defects are invisible and lord knows how many failures are due to the fisherman and not the fly rod. It's how you are treated after the sale that reveals the true quality of the product. For that, Orvis will always earn 5 stars.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice intro package I never give anything a perfect score. For a first time fly fishing enthusiast, who has made mistakes and will continue, this is a sweet deal. Especially the packge including the rod, reel and line. I have not caught stripers, weakies and blues off a boat and shore. No complaints. Broke the tip trying to fish under some trees, had a new rod in 3 days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clearwater Package I recently purchased the Clearwater rod/reel/ line package as a 'backup' on my boat for striper fishing. For the value this rod and reel are outstanding! The 9wt with the large arbor reel work beautifully chucking large flies to Stripers and LMB! The Clearwater is now my 'go to' despite having much more costly rods from other manufactures on the boat. Well worth the money, looks great and will last a lifetime!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Sat Water Fly Rod This is the first time that I've used an Orvis Clearwater rod and I found it to be an excellent saltwater fly rod. I caught a five pound blue fish and it played beautifully. I would recommend this rod to any avid salt water fly fisherman.
