Rated 5 out of 5 by from smooth casting I have had this rod out once in the gulf of mexico. I had no trouble reaching 70-80 ft. unfortunately nothing caught was big enough to challenge a 10-wt. Casting performance was excellent, especially considering the price-great value.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Broken tip after 5 times on the water. I purchased this rod because I've used Orvis since I was a young buck chasing smallies in the river. Now I've moved on to Muskies on the fly so I figured I'd try the Clearwater 10wt as a bargain rod compared to the TFO and Redington in the same class. Wrong. I broke the tip section between the 3rd-4th eyelet while putting minimal pressure on the rod while trying to retrieve my fly from the bottom. Now I'm out of the game for 4-6 weeks during prime Muskie fishing to wait and have it repaired. My brother went with the TFO and has broken it twice, as to be expected during Muskie fishing, but their repair/replacement took only 10 days. Bottom line is that I would not recommend this rod for chasing muskies on the fly, I can't speak for any other species. Overall strength/backbone was not there and the repair/replacement policy is at a snail's pace.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Received as a gift, rod great-reel not so I received a clearwater outfit as a gift for service from a club and while I can't comment on the outfit as the reel does not match, the 10wt rod itself works very well. I tested it with a another 10wt reel I have, using technical tarpon line and it honestly casted great. The tip was fast and powerful with smooth casting on a windy day, I was impressed! The club who gave me the outfit also had Orvis personalize the rod with name my named on the rod so it will be always be a special rod in my collection. Now the reel Orvis sold them was a 7-9wt IV Clearwater reel to go with a 10wt Clearwater rod, seriously! First the reel is too small for a 10wt and second I do not think it's guts would hold up to any fish that a 10wt rod would dictate. The reel was designed as a beginner 8wt reel for fresh water use. I can't believe Orvis would sell a mismatched outfit to someone trying to purchase a gift!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too stiff I found the rod to be too stiff for fishing in the Amazon-I would have been better off with a more flexible rod even at a higher cost-I would have made greater use of the fly rod if I had it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stands Up to Kings I bought this rod to use as a backup to my R.L. Winston for Salmon fishing on Salmon River in New York and I'm glad I did. On my first King this year my Winston rod blew up and I went to the Clearwater. The Clearwater did a fantastic job. Over the six days that I fished the Salmon run I fought and landed about 60 Salmon and couldn't be happier with my Clearwater.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great rod Got a chance to test this and it has surpassed my expectations. For the price I this rod it's a wonder why you would pay any more for a fly rod. I bought the 10wt version and in comparison to other rods in this weight range it has enough backbone without being too stiff and heavy. Very light rod and will put the fly out there plain an simple. Would recommend giving this rod a try in any weight. Glad I purchased it!
