Sizing Information for Orvis Men's Clothing

Orvis clothes are cut generously to accommodate an active country lifestyle. In addition, we build plenty of “wearing ease” into all our garments to ensure you will enjoy them for many years. We field-test all of them on Orvis associates, and we take into consideration how the clothing will be worn. For example, when we fit outerwear, we always size it with the appropriate layers beneath. That means you do not need to order a size up for a comfortable fit.

Not sure what size to order? Just chat, e-mail, or call 0844 557 4188 to reach our Customer Service experts. They will be happy to give you the actual garment measurements for any item we sell.

How to Measure

Men's Sizing InformationIn all instances, hold tape firm and level, but not tight.
a. Head: Using a flexible/soft tape measure, start 1" above the ear. Follow around head staying 1" above the ear. This will give your most accurate reading. Then refer to the chart for size.
b. Neck Circumference: Wrap tape around to the base of your front neck and allow room for wearing comfort; OR measure the collar length of a favourite shirt.
c. *Sleeve Length: From the centre back (CB) of your neck with your arm slightly bent, follow the tape around to your wrist bone.
d. Chest: Wrap a tape measure evenly around the fullest part under your arms.
e. Waist: Wrap a tape around your natural waistline, or where you actually wear your trousers.
f. Seat/Hip: Standing with your feet together, measure around the fullest part of your hip (approx. 7-8" below the waist). Don’t forget to keep the tape level.
g. Inseam: Best taken from an existing pair of trousers you like. Measure along the garment inseam from the crotch seam to the hem.
h. Glove Hand: Measure all the way around the flat part of your hand, excluding the thumb, and around the widest part at the knuckles. Refer to sizing on product page to convert this measurement in inches to your corresponding glove size.

Merino Wool

An ancient and universal fibre

One of the oldest and most universal fibres, felted or woven wool has been used for garments and household linens since the earliest civilizations. Wool textiles have been documented as far back as 3,000 B.C.

The superior quality of wool from merino sheep

Thousands of years of evolution and selective breeding have resulted in merino sheep capable of producing a super-fine wool fibre. One square inch of merino fleece produces nearly four times as many wool fibres as other breeds of sheep. Interlaced with millions of microscopic air pockets, which act as Nature’s most effective insulator, merino fibres naturally reduce the passage of heat by trapping air between the woolen fibres. Because merino fibres are smaller in diameter and more abundant than in any other wool, they trap more air and keep the wearer naturally more comfortable.

Versatile, durable and comfortable

Merino wool keeps the wearer warm in cold weather and cool in hot weather. These remarkable fibres also absorb up to 30% of their own weight in moisture, pulling vapor away from the body so that the wearer stays dry and comfortable regardless of the temperature.

The extremely fine, soft, and crimped nature of its fibres allow for a strong natural elasticity that enhances its high-performance qualities. Merino wool is not only warm, it is water-repellent, odor-resistant, extremely durable, and anti-static, making it ideal for a range of products from performance wear to fine wool suiting.

Fine merino wool is soft, not scratchy!

Modern technology has made it possible to sort and select only the finest merino fibres. Merino wool has a microscopic diameter—about one-third to one-tenth the thickness of a human hair. The smaller the diameter, the finer, softer, and less scratchy the fabric will be. Lustrous merino wool produces fabric that can be worn next to the skin without discomfort, is soft, and always provides an exceptional hand and distinctive style. Orvis offers a wide range of luxuriously soft merino wool clothing for men.
