    Haven't actually tried it yet - 6/3/2015

The quality is good for the Hen Necks. The only thing that I wish Orvis would do is to label the colors in their pictures. The item lists 5 colors, but only shows 4. I understand that white needs not shown, but it just makes sense to me to label the items just in case. I take it that the "Dun" color is the greenish one. Let's label some stuff please. Like the thread! Good job on labeling the thread.

    darker brown than I'd hoped - 2/19/2015
    By: from Seattle, WA

I had hoped that the necks would be from Rhode Island Red hens. They are darker than I'd hoped but I can use them anyhow. I had requested that one would be sent to British Columbia. I learned only after a very long call to Orvis that they don't do that. Unfortunately Orvis never e-mailed me about this restriction. They said they called, but unless I know the name of the person at the other end, I don't answer the call and no-one left a message.

    Small sized necks - 1/6/2015

Although the necks seemed a little small, they have a lot of nice feathers to make a lot of soft hackles patterns. Nice consistency of feather quality.

Soft Hackle Hen Neck; Good Value - 12/2/2014
    By: from Midwest City, OK

I wanted to try this for the Charlie Craven soft hackle emerger pattern after getting his book: Charlie's Fly Box. The color is good and it will tie a lot of size 16 flies and even some smaller flies. The alternative is a $21.00 neck, so try this out. Thanks- Ken

Expected more hackle on there for size 14-18 hooks. Will not pay for Dr. Whiting products, too much money. The search continues.

These necks are great for dry fly wings.I can only use the bottom inch and 1/2 of the neck but that still accounts for alot of fly's. I just wish they would offer them in grizzly. Make that a good grizzly.

These feathers add new color options to my soft hackles. It always seems that if your fly is a little bit different from the others, that fish pay more attention. In any case, they make good looking flies that catch fish.

    Good practical product - 9/22/2012
    By: from East Yorkshire

I've just bought one from the delightful Pickering, UK Orvis shop and was surprised by the reasonable cost and quality of the neck. Whiting hen necks are superb but three times the cost and when you don't need that level of quality and just want a good feather for everyday tying then these fit the purpose perfectly.
