Orvis Fatwood

Fatwood fire starter kindling is an easy, eco-friendly way to enjoy a roaring wood fire. - As seen in InStyle Magazine

Cut from the resin-saturated heartwood found in the stumps of ancient longleaf pines, our fatwood burns with a hot, aromatic pine flame that makes it the perfect kindling for wood fires, whether in the woodstove, hearth, or campsite. Choose 15 pounds of fatwood in a reusable burlap sack or a 30-lb. cardboard carton. Introduced in 1970, Orvis fatwood is earth friendly (no living trees are harvested in making it).

    Excellent - 2/17/2015

Very good kindling wood. A few sticks, 4 bits of newspaper and some smaller pieces of logs and it really does work. I used to use around 15 sticks of ordinary kindling per fire, but not anymore. More economical than buying ordinary kindling.

    Astounding! - 1/28/2015

How excited can one get about kindling? And you paid how much for kindling???? Justified questions which I would have asked myself BEFORE buying this product. BUT these kindling sticks really are sensational! They will literally light anything - and our supposedly "seasoned wood" isn't always that seasoned, meaning it is green, fizzles, spits, is tricky to light - with perfect ease and reliability. i even lit a coal fire with a few of those kindling sticks. Of all the things I bought last year...these were the best purchase ever. Highly recommended, I will buy them as long as Orvis will sell them.

    A Winter Must Have - 12/8/2014

Some things just work. Married a girl from Connecticut ten years ago and discovered Fatwood at my first Thanksgiving in the US. An essential piece of winter kit it makes the chore of lighting a real fire an easy one. Used to use up my luggage allowance bringing it back to the UK ! Now simply order on line. Service is superb and it arrives within a couple of days. Happy Holidays guaranteed.

Easiest way to light a fire - 12/1/2014
    By: from East yorks

Fatwoods are the easiest way to light a fire and get it burning really quickly. They even get damp logs to burn . Forget kindling , just split fatwoods in half and use 2 with 2 pieces of newspaper and a roaring fire is guaranteed.

    Firelighting made easy - 11/27/2014
    By: from Herefordshire

I have used these for donkey's years for everything from stoves on narrowboats to my log burner at home. Always consistent, never vary, just light with a long match or lighter, stick on the fire, throw your kindling on top and Robert is your mother's brother. Plus they smell nice. I have just had (yet) another delivery, and when this has run out, I'll order another. As my friend Aleksandr says: 'Simples'. Ta very much.

    It kindled my affection :-) - 11/21/2014

Lighting a real fire should be a piece of cake, but very often is not - pfaffing around on a cold Winter's evening is not good for the soul, but with Orvis Fatwood you can have your cake and eat it. Three or four pieces of scrunched up newspaper, a sprinkling of Orvis Fatwood sticks and a lightish log or two on top - light the newspaper, make yourself a cup of tea or coffee and come back to find that your fire is roaring away, every time without fail. Other kindling methods either do not work as well, or leave horrid residues in your fireplace or logburner - Orvis Fatwood just takes off and burns away to nothing, leaving you to enjoy your fire, not cursing it. I was introduced to it by a friend and I have recommended to other friends of mine, and they all are very glad I did. Brilliant product, without any qualification whatsoever :-)
