I purchased one at the Orvis shop near my home and looked forward to use it on cloudy days or at dusk. Just before I put it into my bag, I decided to confirm that the light worked. it did not. I took it back to the store where the sales persons were neither able get it to work, nor open it to replace the batteries. We tried the other two on the rack. One also did not light up. While the other one lighted as long as one held in the button, it would not stay on. The directions say to push it once to go on, and then quickly a second time to get it to stay on. However, after repeated tries we gave up. I returned it for a refund. Unfortunately, I cannot find a similar device anywhere. Hopefully, in the future Orvis will carry an alternative product as I would really like to have a functioning lighted clip on magnifier. Even if this one worked, following the directions on replacing the battery either were confusing or wrong, as we could not get it open as the directions said. I may just resort to a cap light and a separate magnifier.
Magnifier & Light Attachment -
By: RobtMiller1950 from NC/FL
I recently purchased the magnifier with a light, and found that as several other reviewers pointed out, the light does not illuminate the point of focus of the magifier. No amount of fiddling with the brim of my hat (which is what the device attaches to) could bring the light on to the area of focus. I bent the brim up and down and sideways, still no light on the subject. But as I fiddled around with the device, I tound that if I held it upside down under the hat brim the light pointed mostly on the area being magnified. I took a couple of small tabs of velcro out of my toolbox, put two pieces on the light and two pieces on the brim- so that I could stick it on my hat upside down. This works much better, the light is focused mostly on the magnified area, and it is really helpful when tying knots or flies. It's odd the way the device is engineered, but it is very usable with the upside down mounting on the hat brim.
Good but Issues -

This product is on the face of it a clever upgrade to the original clip-on magnifiers. The light makes them useful when sea trout fishing at night. The issues with them are twofold and do detract from it being the perfect tool, firstly the torch makes the item heavy and I found myself constantly having to re-adjust the cap on my head, the second issue is that the light doesn't shine where you need it which is at the point of focus for the lenses.

I use this product on every trip. Lost it in the the river last fall and needed to replace it. Haven't found a better, compact combination of light and magnification

This is brilliant, I just wish I knew about it earlier! It is ideal for night time sea trout fishing & also day fishing without the light, as my eyes are not what they was! I am so pleased with this product & would highly recommend it to everyone

Haven't used it yet, but I know it will come in handy while fishing. Have on numerous occasions broke off at dusk and not had enough light to see to tie a new tippet on. This product should remedy the situation.
Firefly magnifier with light -
What a great solution to the challenge of tying on a new fly without having to fumble around for a pair of glasses! The firefly magnifier is so easy because its already right there on the brim of your hat. All you have to do is to flip it down into your line of sight and you have instant magnification for seeing just what you're doing! This is a great solution for fly fishers!
GREAT DESIGN, AVERAGE QUALITY -

I like the design which combines a light and magnifying lenses. However, of the two that I ordered, one was defective out of the box.
Useless purchase -
The beam of light is fixed, cannot be adjusted and illuminates my feet. The beam of light cannot be adjusted to focus in front of the magnifier where it is needed most. I don't need to light up my feet but need to adjust the beam of light to see what I'm using the magnifier to focus on.
