Ice coats the guides of your rod like a glassy fog. It floats down the river in semi-solid chunks and runs through your veins like a bitter winter chill. Winter steelheading is not for the pretenders. You're out here because the river is yours when everyone else stays inside and because you can't think of anything you'd rather be doing. Part of the day, you nymph beneath an indicator. Then you switch to swinging streamers. Luckily, the 8-weight 10' Helios 2 pulls double duty. You tell yourself "one more cast" as you lose feeling in your fingers. Suddenly, your line goes tight and that breathless surge of adrenaline radiating through your chest is the only feeling that matters. Proudly made in Manchester, Vermont.
Why would we take the world's best fly rod and change it? The answer is simple. We're driven by constant improvement. Put this rod in your hands and feel the rush. You'll completely understand.

Helios 2 8-Wt 10" Fly Rod is a great rod for salmon. It is light compared to other 8 wts I have used. I can cast it without suffering from arm fatigue after a full day on the stream.

Out here, an 8-weight is the tool of choice when the silvers and other salmon return. Owning another H2 in 6 weight, the 8 weight H2 tip flex was the obvious choice. I cast the 9 footer and liked it, but for beach fishing I liked the longer length of the 10 footer. I would have hesitated with a heavier rod, but not with the H2. Light - so it was easy on my shoulder. And powerful. I lined with a Outbound Short and hit 80 feet on first easy cast. Oh...that was nice. Double hauling added more distance. Even better. This is the beach rod of choice for salmon.
One Word... -

One word sums up this rod: Power, accuracy, response, greatness... ok those are a few words, but this rod lives up to and surpasses them all. I originally had the 908 H2, but was having trouble finding the right line to match such a fast rod... I felt I needed a 10wt line to properly load the thing since I am using it in harsh conditions on the California Delta, San Francisco Bay, and Coast. The customer service at the San Jose, Ca Orvis is so awesome. I brought up the issue with the fishing manager Nathan and he recommended the 10' 8wt. What a difference!!! I wouldn't say the 10' rod has slower action than the 9', but the rod loads more evenly and with more power... using the same Hydros 8wt Bass Line. I had no problem sending the line out 90ft straight into 15-20mph wind with a heavy weight clouser. I would assume this would be THE rod to use in the tropics for Bonefish, permit, baby tarpon, etc... and can only assume this will be an awesome Fall/Winter Salmon Steelhead rod as well. For those still in doubt, I also had the opportunity to fish on the California Delta with the Sage XI3; which is comparable in price to the H2. Well, I have to say the H2 blows the XI3 out of the water.... better action, more response, better accuracy, more power, better materials, better components... hands down... sorry Sage. If you are looking for the best fly rod this is it, forget about the 9 foot rod, and backed with the unconditional warranty, it's a no brainer!
