In a culture that wants everything bigger, stronger, and faster, sometimes slowing things down can provide the greatest benefits. If you prefer parachutes to tungsten, live for emergers, and shudder at the thought of coneheads, this is the ideal fly rod. This medium-action Helios 2 5-weight 9' fly rod handles long leaders and light tippets with kindness, but won't shy away from those stubborn trout who won't eat anything that doesn't include rabbit strips and rubber legs. Be ready for anything that swims your way knowing that the best 5 wt. fly rod is in your hands. Proudly made in Manchester, Vermont.

I always believed equipment wouldn't make a better angler. This rod proves that false. I upgraded from a clearwater rod and can't believe how much better this rod feels/casts. The fit and finish is superb. Loads very nicely yet retains excellent strength and power, very sensitive too. A joy to cast all day. I believe I'm in love!

I have an early CFO III reel which needed a rod to go with it and the Helios 2 seemed like a good choice. I purchased a 5 weight mid flex . Wow, what a great rod it is! It is so light I can go all day with it and can out cast my thirty year old Orvis 7 weight which has always been my go to rod until now. Beautiful craftsmanship and the envy of my fishing partner.

Can't say enough about my Helios 2 9' 5Wt. Super Light, and great action, makes an average caster great, and an experienced one sublime. Great looks, and when paired with the Mirage II and Hydros 3D line...becomes an incredible trout sniper. Can't wait to get a 10' 3Wt :)
My best flyrod ever -

I got this rod latge in the season, but managed to test it on streams in the Roros distrrict fishing for greyling. The rod is precise, easy to cast, light in the hand, and it casts very long and at the same time very delicate presentations of my flies. I am very satisfied with the purchase, and will recomend the rod to my flyfishing friends.

I started fly fishing three years ago, started with an Orvis Clearwater nice rod and as a beginner it taught me how to cast. As my skill level improved like all of us I wanted a better rod.I went to my Orvis store and thought it was time for an Access. This rod had good reviews and cast well. As I was finished with my lawn casting I said while I am here can I cast the new Helios 2. I was hoping it was not much better to save the money. I was shocked at what an upgrade it was over the Access. The wind was blowing around 15 to 20 MPH so I tried both rods into the wind no contest. The Helios 2 is a special rod. The Helios 2 is very smooth yet you can fell the power for distance or like today into the wind. This rod is worth testing and if you can swing the dollars an amazing rod.

i love the feel of my helio flyrod. but i dont love waiting for it to be repaired after it broke my first day of fishing this season.ive only had it less than a year, an upgrade from my hydros, after it broke. i only fish for bluegills with 4 lb leader. if you buy one you will love the way it casts, but you should have a second rod to fish with while its being fixed.
A sensitive, smooth, strong rod -

The Orvis Helios 2 five weight mid-flex rod is a truly perfect rod for me. I love the mid-flex aspect as I can "feel" the rod from tip to butt section, and that applies whether I cast a short distance or fire it out 70 feet. I even notice the improvements Orvis made in this rod over the original Helios five weight mid-flex, which is still a great rod. I find that the Helios 2 is even better, with a little more strength and sensitivity. I use it for dries as well as for nymphs and streamers.

Put this rod through its paces today and it did not disappoint. This is my first purchase of the Helios 2 line with the help of some gift cards from family members. I currently own two original Helios, the 8wt Switch and the 9wt (which helped me catch a couple nice striped bass yesterday down the Jersey Shore). I could not believe how accurate you could be with this rod with minimal effort exerted. This rod, time and time again, placed my size 18 BWO precisely where I was aiming. The casting was so delicate, it put all of my previous 5wts to shame. Even being a mid flex, I was still able to launch some big buggers yet the tip was sensitive enough to notice the slightest take when nymphing later in the day. I am looking forward to my week long camping/fishing trip to upstate PA next week and I am sure there won't be too much time where the rod isn't in my hands. My only regret is that I didn't save up enough to pick up a matching 3wt as well because I am sure I would have been writing a review for that today too. All in all an excellent rod with a wide range of versatility.
