Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket! I bought the jacket from the store on 5th Avenue on 42nd Street. Jon who helped me was really helpful and really took his time to help me. Ordered the jacket online and it was delivered the next day.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good quality but very baggy in fit. Really liked the jacket and I am a pretty stocky guy but these are cut very very baggy so decided to go with something not as blocky. Was a little disappointed with the return process - have been told it may take 2 weeks for a refund after Orvis received the jacket back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A well built coat but not flattering. This coat is growing on me. But it is more boxy and more "waxy" then I anticipated. That's just a mismatch of the coat and my expectations buying it online. I think over time it will be a favorite. It is well constructed and seems as though it will last forever. The "boxy" - ness allows for great layering. Could use a few more pockets as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very warm I bought this jacket a months ago and had to return it to get a smaller size. However, when the right size came it I was very pleased! Great jacket!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My New Favorite Jacket Barbour quality is always assured, but I am still overwhelmed with how perfect this jacket is. I wore it all through the snow with a few layers under, but it is still perfect for light weather and chilly fall and spring days. The Bedale jacket's woven sleeve liners are great for keeping the cold out but make it a little stuffy with layers or watches. The jacket is also about 3 inches shorter in length than the Barbour Beaufort jacket so for shorter men, this jacket fits and looks better. In the snow, I stayed dry the entire time with no water or snow seeping through the waxed fabric. The zip in liner and hood are a very smart purchase if you're in colder or rainier areas, but the jacket has gone above and beyond my wants and expectations. I'm certain that this jacket will last me a long time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just a Great Jacket Have a Barbour Durham since 1998, actually got tired of the jacket before it wore out. Had it rewaxed twice and looks new. Decided it was time for a new Barbour and purchased a Bedale with liner. These things are the best! Now I brought Durham out of semi-retirement and have been alternating both jackets for last 3 months since New England has been off/on mild to cooler temps. Now love them both....just great jackets. Buy one it you are hesitant, you will see what I mean.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Jacket I bought this jacket for my daughter who is a freshman in college. She will be taking an equestrian class next semester and this is the perfect jacket for her to wear.

Men's Sizing

Barbour

Size Charts for Men's Clothing

Since 1894, J. Barbour & Sons have produced clothes perfectly suited to life in the country. Their quality, durable clothing is cut for an active lifestyle and the fit varies according to each garment's design and purpose.

The sizing of Barbour’s clothing is divided into four segments:

  • Heritage: slightly fitted, vintage cut
  • Contemporary: A slim—but not fitted—cut
  • Sporting: an active cut for comfort in the field
  • Classic: traditional, fuller cut

In the case of Barbour outerwear, sizing takes into account the appropriate layers beneath. That means you do not need to order a size up for a comfortable fit.

Not sure what size to order? Just chat, e-mail, or call our Customer Service experts toll free at 0333 400 4177. They’ll be happy to give you the actual garment measurements for any item we sell.

Repair & Care

Reproofing Your Barbour Waxed Cotton Jacket

The Barbour Sporting Classic Beaufort Jacket
The Barbour Sporting Classic Beaufort Jacket: A jacket that will last for years — even decades — with yearly reproofing.

Your Barbour Jacket — A Great Value that Lasts for Years

With regular reproofing your waxed cotton Barbour jacket will remain waterproof through many years of faithful wear—Barbour receives vintage jackets of thirty, forty, even fifty years of service for reproofing and repair.

Reproofing: the Process that Preserves the Outstanding Quality of Your Jacket

Waxed cotton is made waterproof by impregnating the cotton fabric with a wax specially formulated for the maximum water-resistant qualities. Also called oiling, waxing, redressing, or waterproofing, reproofing is the process of re-applying the wax to keep your jacket fully waterproof and wind resistant. Reproofing helps to protect your favourite jacket from severe elements while rejuvenating and restoring the garment, thus prolonging its years of effectiveness.

Yearly Reproofing Is Best

It’s best to reproof your jacket yearly, especially if you subject it to robust use in the field, where regular conditions include heavy weather, mud, and abrasion. Garments should be cleaned with cold or lukewarm water to remove any mud or debris before being brought in for reproofing. Simply hose down or rinse in a shower, using a soft brush to remove any mud or debris.

How to Submit Your Jacket to Barbour for Reproofing

We highly recommend that you bring your Barbour jacket in to your local Orvis store when it needs repair or treatment. Our retail associates will be happy to take down your information and send your jacket off to Barbour’s UK headquarters for reproofing.

Find your Orvis store here

If you don’t have an Orvis store near you, the Barbour website has a form for requesting reproofing as well. For more information, please visit: Barbour Repairs & Reproofing.
