Over the years I've worn a number of Barbour coats and jackets. I've been spoiled by their beefy brass zippers. This waxed cotton vest appears to be a good substitute for the British stalwart but for the zipper. It's black and the tab is small making it devilishly diffecult to fasten in cold weather when one might be wearing a down vest—impossible if wearing gloves. Otherwise, it's just what I wanted. Guess I'll just be using the snaps.

    Snappy vest - 2/3/2014

The vest is well made and a Great weight. I love the color and have had many complements The only draw back is that it needs to be more fitted. Its not as warm as I had hoped. As an athletic man it fits around the chect but is too loose around the waist. I like my vest to fit snug to keep the heat in and also to be a layer under a larger coat for extremley cold days

    At last - 1/2/2014

I bought this vest at the Orvis Fly Shop in NYC the other day and I am beyond in love with it. I ruined a down vest I had for several years (not an Orvis) and I had been looking for a replacement. I looked at all my normal stores and catalogs and there just were no good vests to be had. Why I didn't go to Orvis in the first place I don't know. Was doing some post Christmas shopping in the City and came across this vest and bought it instantly. Unlike some down vests, it has a good weight to it; I don’t like vests or jackets that feel so light I cannot imagine them keeping me warm. Love the waxed cloth feel. It’s not so puffy I feel like a marshmallow. My only critique is it is a little pricy at $250 (As of Dec. 2013. I got it on sale and was still a little amazed at the cost), but I am the kind of person who gets buyer’s remorse on every purchase, and this is one buy I do not regret.

Bought this over a Barbour at about $100 more. Good quality, nice fit and meets expectations. Own some Barbour coats , but glad I didn't spring for the extra bucks on this one. Good purchase!
