Excellent boots at an even better price - 7/28/2015
    By: from Auckland, New Zealand

Took these out for the first time this morning and I am genuinely impressed! Bought the felt sole and hiked up and down river for at least 4 miles. A variety or terrain from boulders to sand proved to be easy task for these boots! My feet were comfortable all day and in terms of traction, I may have well been walking on a carpet floor with cleats on. Thanks for another awesome product Orvis!

    Entry Level - 7/9/2015
    By:

"Entry level" does not always mean junk, but this time it does. Shame on Orvis. I wore these boots 20 to 25 times, and they were fine. I then took them on my first trip to the Beaver Kill, over 11 hours driving. The sole came off the front of my right boot the first morning. I went to town bought duct tape and fixed it. the second day the sole on the left heal came loose. No way to fix that with duct tape. I found someone with an extra pair I could borrow. I lost about a day of a three day trip. Junk.

We’ve recently discovered a sole separation issue with our Encounter Wading Boots—Felt (item #8R7X). We have addressed the manufacturing concern, and all current, 2015 stock is up-to-spec and our high performance standards. Please feel free to contact our technical experts at 1-800-548-9548 with any questions.

    not durable - 7/7/2015
    By: from PA

This boots were comfortable and when i first started wearing them I thought they were a great bargain. But.... The sole on the right boot separated this morning. Ruined the rest of the day. I've only got 15 maybe 20 fishing days on them. Not worth it. Buy something better. I'm going to see if Orvis will honor a guarantee on them and give me store credit towards a higher end pair.

Comfortable but not durable - 6/23/2015
    By: from Blairsville, Ga.

I got about 50 days of fishing out of these boots before the sole separated from the uppers on one of the boots. They were comfortable, but I would definitely not recommend these to anyone who plans on fishing often.

Perfect Boot for the Purpose - 6/4/2015

These boots are clearly not the top of the line that Orvis offers, but they are perfect for multiple purposes. First, it is a terrific boot for someone first getting into fly fishing and not sure they want to make the most expensive of every item (personally, I would tend to go more expensive on the rod, since if you stick with fly fishing it will serve you well for years). Personally, I purchased these for the sole purpose of a light weight boot to carry while backpacking. Although I would prefer rubber soles for eco purposes, the felt soles are almost a pound lighter. You just have to recognize that these will not last forever. The soles only have single sticking, as opposed to some of Orvis' other boots.

Save up for better boots - 5/25/2015
    By:

They are comfortable and lightweight. However, they are not durable. Wading primarily mountain streams in and around the Smokies, these boots just cannot handle the rocks and swift water. On my 3rd wading trip, a sole separated. Fortunately a special shoe adhesive saved it. On my last wading trip in May, the other boot, same issue. Duct tape got me through the day. Just not reliable for my needs. I have used for about a year and have had to repair both boots. You get what you pay for.

    Lightweight wading boots - 5/5/2015
    By: from Fresno, CA

I love these wading boots. I had two pairs from other manufacturers (borger) that must have weighed 5 pounds each. These are nice enough that I have two pairs of the boots. I store one pair in Oregon with my best friend so I don't have to ship them up from CA when I fish up there. These boots are very lightweight, perfect for us older guys.

Great boots for the price! - 3/30/2015

I took these out to the river yesterday, and I could not have been happier. They were comfortable, and seem very well made. For the price, they would be hard to beat!
