One tends to think of mountain- or ski-clothing manufacturers when buying a down jacket, so it is somewhat odd to come across ones bearing the Orvis logo. But these match the quality of other Orvis products and I am very pleased with my purchase. These jackets are surprisingly light and remarkably warm, yet lack the bulk one associates with down jackets. I have another similar item, produced by another company, which I wear regularly in cold weather as a jumper/jacket. Unzipped, it is perfect for colder days indoors and you only need to zip it up for it to provide more than sufficient warmth when moving outdoors. I bought the Orvis product to serve the same purpose. However, I decided to opt for a Large and it is definitely on the large size, which makes it less suitable to wear as an indoors jacket. But I have no regrets and this may simply offer an excuse to buy a Medium at some stage in the future. Aside from the size issue, be aware that the 'Orange' is very bright.

A superb lightweight jacket that is so convenient. Sometimes I wear it under my Cockpit leather jacket when the winds get up and blow extra cold from the south. Alternatively I wear it over my sports gear when off to the Gym when I'm back in England on those cold winter nights.

I like it but it is not as warm as I expected. 800 fill is normally super warm. In the UK this may be more usable than the super warm I was expecting My wife dislikes the bright orange colour. I'm fine with it

Lightweight. Portable. Warm. -
The Targhee Lightweight Down Jacket is a must have for anybody who is looking for a layer that is warm and fashionable. Also the fact that the jacket is thin instead of bulky like many other down jackets I have owned makes it great on back country camping trips where bringing a bunch of big clothes isn't always an option. Overall great piece from Orvis.
