Rated 5 out of 5 by from super-fun 5 weight rod I bought this a couple months ago and have had the chance to fish with it several times since. I am really impressed with how multi dimensional this rod is. I have been able to throw reasonable sized streamers, nymph, and of course dries with it. I paired it with the hd trout line and have been very impressed with that combo. Hook sets are very soft due to the flex this rod offers. It protects a small tippet very well due to that, and once you get used to a hard hook set, its amazing. I haven't tried hooking a bass with it, but trout, carp, and panfish are loads of fun on this rod and fun to hook set on. Very precise casting. You can feel everything with this rod. I feel like it has improved my casting technique do to the sensitive nature of the glass.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smooth as glass Got back into fishing glass last year and glad I did. This rod was purchase late December so I only had it in the water once. The taper and feel of the rod is exceptional. It's going to be a ton of fun to fish for smallmouth bass on the Potomac river.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Meh... This was an impulse purchase. I ended up selling it. For me, this rod was just, "meh". Heavy, especially when paired with a battenkill, it's super tip heavy. Not a good combo for my taste but also not a deal breaker either. Ugly look too. I know it's glass but a tad bit more backbone would've been nice. It just felt a little cheap and slapped together fast, something that suprised me. I guess it's all about the right time and place, and I just don't have a situation that call for this rod.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fathers Day Gift I really like the feel of casting and the "fish-on" feel of the SF Glass 5wt compared to my Far n Fine. It has an easier casting stroke closer to vintage glass, which I love. The only thing that i'm disappointed with is the quality of the wraps. I finally found a rod that was satisfactory, however inconsistencies are still visible in the wraps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Senior Wisdom As a senior adult, I have used many fly-rod types and materials through the years. Recently I asked my wife to buy me (anniversary) an 8' 5wt Superfine glass rod from Orvis to use as a backup for my other more expensive rods. After two days fishing in Wyoming in July, 2015, I decided to try the new rod just to satisfy my curiosity. Boy, was I blown away! For the remainder of the week I used the new glass rod exclusively, and now my other rods serve as backups to this one. Great balance, feel, sensitivity, and backbone! As a dry-fly fisherman I love it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from When l heard (last season) that Orvis was going to release a series of modern fiberglass rods, I couldn't wait to try one. A local shop was able to order me an 805-3pc. Superfine Glass. I put my new glass rod through its paces at a local still-water club. Once I slowed down enough (even though I'm already a relaxed caster), this rod was very smooth, an excellent roll-caster & an absolute blast playing fish. This rod has the ability to protect delicate tippets yet still fling weighted flies & streamers farther than I expected. My 8' 5wt. rod had a couple minor, cosmetic & build issues when I first received it, but the Orvis' rod shop quickly & courteously corrected the problems. Excellent customer service,...thanks!
