Best Braided leader out there -
By: tyer from St. Louis Missouri
I've been using Orvis Braided Leaders for over 35 years now. They are still the best ones out there. Most of the guys and gals I fish with use the Orvis Braided Leaders also. They are float longer and straighten out smoothly. I really the transiition between the fly line and the leader. No bumps or knots. They are a little pricy - but worth every penny. Sare

the braided leader worked well but, only lasted about three hours of fish time before it came apart half way in the braid
Best Braided Leader Period! -
By: lilrhodes from Southern Itlay
I've been using this type leader for dry fly fishing for more than 10 years, and I love it. It is my favorite dry fly leader, Period! It casts easily, has perfect connection loops on both ends and lasts for years. Casts easily, dream like, with delicate presentations. Fly Fisherman across Europe use these type of leaders as their go to leaders in difficult stealth conditions. In my opinion, these leaders perform as well as clear leaders for spooky fish in chalk stream rivers, etc. I hope that Orvis continues to make these fine leaders. The only recommendation that I could give for improvement is to add a small "tippet ring" on the tippet end of the leader - to keep-up with technology. And also give an option to sell only the leader without the tippets included. I like to add my own tippets.
Braided Leader System -
I used the Orvis braided leader system on my Montana fishing trip and the leader performed flawlessly. I used it when I was dry fly fishing and it stayed on top of the water. I just used a small amount of floatant on the leader and it worked to perfection. Thank You Orvis.

I was told this was a mostly dry fly leader.I have used it for nymphs and various wet flies. It works great. It is extremely tangle resistant. I have used the same leader for many all day trips and it is still going strong.
Not what it was -

I haven't fished in a few years due to injuries but can now get back to it. The leaders were a fine product and turn well. I guess i'm older than most and remember when these were sold separate. it was also that a 7.5' was just that add a couple feet of tippet and you had a darn fine 9' leader. Please Orvis go back to separate sales and make them what they were, and really the price is a bit much. I'll use the one I have, but when its done it looks like tapered mono from the competition
Braided Leaders -

I've been fly fishing with Orvis more than 30 years. I've used the braided loop system most of them. It is the best system for connecting tippets and turning drys or streamers. However they have gotten too expensive. Guys, at least sell them separate from your tippets. Thanks.
Couple of Negatives -
By: AndyW6 from Aberdeen, Scotland
Firstly, I have to say this system fishes very well, allowing longish casts and good turnover every time. However, I have 2 issues with it: 1) when the leader is in a packet that says '9ft' I expect that's what's inside - however, the leader is only 4ft long so I think Orvis are disingenuous in their product description ( they rely on the tipper section to make-up the full 9ft). Personally, I think a 4ft leader is way too short; 2) the entire system is way over priced when you consider you are only getting 25ft of Tippett. I think the Bimini knot is OTT for trout fishing and it's a shame Orvis choose not to sell the braided leader on its own. On balance I'd probably recommend this system to others, but I'd certainly highlight the negatives.

These braided leader "kits" are perfect for minimalists like me. The spooled tippets are easy to carry and store in a chest pack. Nothing turns over tiny nymphs or dries like a braided leader system!
