Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good buy ! Wanted something to replace the Barbour Beaufort (liner was to much trouble) for winter.. Finally got a cold snap temps 15-20 range and the jacket performs well. Add a little layering and it is a good winter jacket. Only reason would not give it 5 stars is the lack a bottom draw cord and writs closures to seal out the wind.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice coat, but uncharacteristic Barbour quality. I made the decision to buy this jacket after my experience with owning the Barbour Bedale. I love the Barbour product line, the many styles available, and the quality I have come to appreciate from Barbour with my Bedale. I was really excited to get the Barbour Sapper jacket shipped to me from Orvis. When I opened the box, and removed the jacket from the factory packaging, I first noticed some small tufts of string on and around some of the stitching on the top of the jacket and collar. I was a bit surprised by that, but just chalked it up to what may normally remains on the coat after production. Still, it stood out to me as kind of "off". The next day, I happily wore my new Sapper jacket to work. It fit quite well and felt warm on the chilly morning. When leaving mid-day for lunch, I put on the jacket and reached my hand into the right front pocket for my keys, and felt something tear. The edge seam of where the front part of the pocket meets the jacket pulled apart. I wore this jacket for no more than 15 minutes after getting it brand new, and the stitching pulled apart with what I would consider very light/normal daily use. I planned on exchanging this jacket for the same one, but I am not feeling confident about owning this Barbour jacket and wearing it daily with this kind of build quality. I know this may have been a one time problem, but I can't say I feel as confident about Barbour "quality" than I did before owning this jacket. I would purchase a Barbour jacket again, however, would not make the Sapper Jacket my first choice. The only reason I purchased the Sapper is because the Corbridge isn't available here in the US. Despite being disappointed and having a bad experience with the Barbour Sapper Jacket, Orvis has been outstanding in helping me return it for a refund.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket Love the style and fit of the jacket. I'm 5'10", 185 lbs and the large fits great, including with a light sweater underneath. Sleeve length is fine (although I'm a 32-33 inch shirt sleeve length and I can see that guys with longer arms might find the sleeves a bit short). The jacket is the perfect weight for 40 degree raw, damp days, which was what I was looking for. Especially like not dealing with a separate liner (the jacket has its own permanent quilted lining), which was a drawback on the old Bedale I've owned for years. Overall, I'm very pleased with the purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Top notch quality. This is a very good choice for us guys that want a rugged coat with lots of pockets. The look and quality are exceptional. I can see having this coat for a long time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Stylish, warm and great fit I'm 6' 2" and 180 lbs. The large size fit me perfectly. However, I wish they had more colors to choose from.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from "Win Win" experience! "I am 6'4" and 215 lbs. The XL Sapper I ordered was too wide through the body of the jacket. When I cinched the waist on the XL the jacket took on an unflattering "bell shape". Before returning the jacket, I went into my local Orvis store to try on the L Sapper. The L Sapper fit my 6'4" 215 lbs frame perfectly and allowed enough room to layer a warm sweater and button down shirt underneath. My new problem was that the sleeves were about 2” too short on the L Sapper. The Manager at this Orvis store was exceptionally helpful. He advised me that Barbour can lengthen the sleeves on the Sapper L to fit me. He indicated that the service takes about 2 weeks to complete, just bring the new jacket into Orvis and they would make all the arrangements. This was the perfect solution for my unique physique. I ordered the size L Sapper (Black) on the spot and with the help of the Orvis team we will be sending up to Barbour to lengthen the sleeves. Thank you Orvis for making this a “win win” experience!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket for colder weather After owning a Barbour Dunham jacket for 20+ years, I finally decided to get a heavier jacket to wear walking the dog and running around town on the weekends when the weather is colder in the AM. This jacket is exactly what I wanted and expected. I find the cut to be true to size, though the waist was bigger than expected. Once I cinched in the waist with the elastic draw cord, I am good to go. Thanks for a great jacket and great buying experience with Orris.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good quality, cut too small An exceptional quality product. Fully lined, should be warm. Overall cut is too small in the the shoulders and wide in the waist, like a bell.

Size Charts for Men's Clothing

Since 1894, J. Barbour & Sons have produced clothes perfectly suited to life in the country. Their quality, durable clothing is cut for an active lifestyle and the fit varies according to each garment's design and purpose.

The sizing of Barbour’s clothing is divided into four segments:

  • Heritage: slightly fitted, vintage cut
  • Contemporary: A slim—but not fitted—cut
  • Sporting: an active cut for comfort in the field
  • Classic: traditional, fuller cut

In the case of Barbour outerwear, sizing takes into account the appropriate layers beneath. That means you do not need to order a size up for a comfortable fit.

Not sure what size to order? Just chat, e-mail, or call our Customer Service experts toll free at 0333 400 4177. They’ll be happy to give you the actual garment measurements for any item we sell.

Repair & Care

Reproofing Your Barbour Waxed Cotton Jacket

The Barbour Sporting Classic Beaufort Jacket
The Barbour Sporting Classic Beaufort Jacket: A jacket that will last for years — even decades — with yearly reproofing.

Your Barbour Jacket — A Great Value that Lasts for Years

With regular reproofing your waxed cotton Barbour jacket will remain waterproof through many years of faithful wear—Barbour receives vintage jackets of thirty, forty, even fifty years of service for reproofing and repair.

Reproofing: the Process that Preserves the Outstanding Quality of Your Jacket

Waxed cotton is made waterproof by impregnating the cotton fabric with a wax specially formulated for the maximum water-resistant qualities. Also called oiling, waxing, redressing, or waterproofing, reproofing is the process of re-applying the wax to keep your jacket fully waterproof and wind resistant. Reproofing helps to protect your favourite jacket from severe elements while rejuvenating and restoring the garment, thus prolonging its years of effectiveness.

Yearly Reproofing Is Best

It’s best to reproof your jacket yearly, especially if you subject it to robust use in the field, where regular conditions include heavy weather, mud, and abrasion. Garments should be cleaned with cold or lukewarm water to remove any mud or debris before being brought in for reproofing. Simply hose down or rinse in a shower, using a soft brush to remove any mud or debris.

How to Submit Your Jacket to Barbour for Reproofing

We highly recommend that you bring your Barbour jacket in to your local Orvis store when it needs repair or treatment. Our retail associates will be happy to take down your information and send your jacket off to Barbour’s UK headquarters for reproofing.

Find your Orvis store here

If you don’t have an Orvis store near you, the Barbour website has a form for requesting reproofing as well. For more information, please visit: Barbour Repairs & Reproofing.
