Just right -
By: CoastalStl from West coast steelhead streams
I went from a fanny pack to a sling a couple of years ago for more wading room and better access. The one that I have been using was a little small for the winter steelhead fishing I use it for. I wanted to be able to carry a small thermos and a light rain jacket/wind breaker in addition to my flies and lines. The Gale Force Sling is just the right size and water tight to boot. The zippers are positioned in the right place for easy access when you pull it around front to get at what you need. There is not a bunch of stuff hanging off the outside to hang up on brush or otherwise get it the way. All in all, it is just what I was looking for.
Great for deep wading and saltwater -

Being waterproof is its great virtue. I would have given it five stars except that it lacks some of the features and organizational ability of the regular sling pack. But for deep wading, and for fishing the surf or flats it is the best solution I have tried. Definitely a keeper
Just buy this sling -

I received this for Christmas. Have used it every day since in Florida salt and the thing is awesome. I've waded flats up to my armpits and everything inside stays bone(fish) dry. It's more than large enough for everything I need and will carry the extras required when fishing Atlantic Salmon in Newfoundland this coming summer. Thanks Orvis.
The Real Deal -

Simple, light, functional and by far the most practical sling pack I have seen or used. I'm a lefty and use this no problem. No extra bells or whistles keep this light weight but with plenty of room for all you need on the water. The big thing is the material though - waterproof when wading so many slings hang low, you wade deep and everything gets wet. Not here, as long as you don't go up to the zipper everything stays dry. For really deep wading swing on to your front, zippers are up and you can wade deeper than is wise! A rare combination of pure simplicity and function - love it!
My new favorite Saltwater sling pack! -
By: LochFisher from Ontario, Canada
I use the Guide sling pack for freshwater river-fishing, but just used this fully waterproof sling-pack for saltwater Redfishing the Texas Gulf Coast. It worked great, keeping all my gear secure and dry. The only thing missing from the Guide Sling Pack is a Water Bottle pouch. So I had to store my water-bottle inside the larger back zippered pouch. So Orvis could improve this product by adding an external water-bottle pouch, identical to the one on the Guide Sling Pack. Then I would vote it 5-stars. For now, it gets 4 stars.
Not as expected -
By: Whataday from Catskills, NY
Purchased the Galeforce Sling pack as an alternative to fishing vest. Pack did not fit well even with full tightening of straps. Maybe just not for my frame. Don't try to hang a net on the rear loop as it hangs directly behind your casting arm (right handed.) Not to much to this pack for organizing multiple fly boxes, just two zippered pockets and a few mesh compartments. Can not say it's not waterproof. Overall disappointed and returning.
Waterproof Bonus -

I had the earlier excellent Orvis sling pack but it surrendered to battery acid .This Gale Force one won't survive an overturned car battery but will survive water fantastically, and it's reassuring to know that the load on my back is safe from waves and rain. It'd be perfect if it had a couple of more externla rings to hang assorted onjects on. But overall it's greatl and a really useful piece of kit.
Unfair Reciew -
It is really unfair to write a bad review when the information states this is made for right-handed people. Of course it wouldn't work for someone who isn't right-handed.
This bag delivers what it promises -

I wanted a waterproof bag, and that's what I got. The zippers aren't as easy as "normal" zippers because these are designed to be waterproof. Everybody carries electronics of some sort with them - which is why I got this bag in the first place. I've practically swam across some sections of river and everything stayed dry.
