Fish Legal Auction

Fish Legal is a not-for-profit organisation of dedicated lawyers who use the law on behalf of anglers to fight polluters and others who damage or threaten the water environment. It is a unique, membership association and everything its lawyers do is funded collectively by members' subscriptions, donations and legacies. Fish Legal secures compensation for its members, to help restore polluted waters, working across cases from industrial, agricultural and chemical pollution to over-abstraction and sewage leaks.

At Orvis UK, we are proud to support Fish Legal in many ways, including facilitating events and fundraising. In March, our team headed up to our good friends’ Mallon & Green in Bakewell, to attend a talk from the Fish Legal lawyers about their work, locally and nationally, to learn more about the action they are taking in the law courts this year.

We are delighted to present a range of different auction lots, donated by supporting fisheries, Fish Legal members, brands and organisations, who wanted to help raise vital funds at the event, and open this out to the wider Orvis community to bid on these fantastic fishing opportunities and products. Explore the lots and bid generously to support this critical organisation.

Auction Lots

Lot 1 - Fly Fishing on Orvis’ River Itchen Beat

A day's fishing for 3 rods on Orvis' River Itchen Beat in the heart of Hampshire.

The Abbots Worthy beat on the River Itchen is about a third of a mile with single and double bank fishing. It is the most challenging of our pieces of water for casting and stalking, as it is clear all year round with good aquatic fly life providing plenty of hatches, including Iron Blue and Large Dark Olive in good numbers and even the rare Turkey Brown. Most of the River Itchen is a conservation area under SSSI management and the beat is no longer stocked, to help grow the wild fish population. We are promoting catch and release on this stretch to preserve its native brown trout. It can accommodate up to 3 rods and can be booked exclusively with a ghillie for the day. This is a unique chance to experience a wild fishery, whilst still on chalk stream waters.

This prize was kindly donated by Orvis UK.

Lot 3 - Fly Fishing on the River Wye

A day for up to three on The Rectory beat of the Upper River Wye, fishing for salmon, trout or grayling. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Black Mountains (Mynydd Ddu) The fishery comprises 1.5 miles of mixed single and double bank fishing, around 6 miles upstream of Hay on Wye. The Rectory is one of the upper river’s premier salmon beats with a procession of diverse pools that fish over a wide range of flows. For trout and grayling anglers there are some lovely dry fly flats and plenty of runs suited to nymphing and wet fly. Wading is fairly easy for most of the beat but there are, however, some rockier sections and studded soled waders are essential.

There is a hut for anglers’ use, with camping gas stove, tea, coffee etc (no running water) and a range of nearby accommodation options. The lot can be taken in 2024 and arrangements can be made for an introduction to the fishery on the day.

Lot 4 - Fly Fishing at Haddon Hall

A day's fishing for 2 rods on the "Hall Beat" of the River Wye at Haddon Hall. Fish for Wild Rainbow Trout, Wild Brown Trout and Grayling on the 1 mile private beat which meanders through Haddon Hall's Medieval Parkland.

This section of river is usually only accessible for the Estate's owners or Platinum members of the PFFC. To be taken after 16th June 2024.
