FISH IN THE READS 2022: THE DETAILS

Orvis UK are delighted to announce the launch of the 2022 ‘Fish in the Reads’ Series, taking place from January until March after the success of last year.

As a world-renowned fly fishing brand, we aim to connect booklovers and fishing enthusiasts with the authors behind some of the most creative and well-known books in the industry with this virtual series.

Now back again for its second year online, authors in the pipeline include:

David Profumo

A fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, former Fishing Correspondent of The Daily Telegraph, and now the longstanding ‘Reel Life’ columnist in Country Life magazine, David Profumo has a wealth of talent to share.

We are therefore delighted that David Profumo will be generously reading a world exclusive from his recently released book ‘The Lightening Thread. Fishological Moments and the Pursuit of Paradise’ as part of the Fish in the Reads series on the 25th January 2022.

His book centres on the restorative power of being at one with nature, particularly while fishing, and was published in May 2021 by Scribner UK.

Colin Macleod

Whilst never tiring of the thrill of doing battle with belligerent bass, mecurial mackerel, gyrating garfish, plunging Pollack and the occasional thornback ray, Colin Macleod particularly relishes the challenge presented by UK mullet species on the fly.

And so forth comes his best-selling book, ‘Mullet on the Fly’. We can’t wait to hear Colin Macleod reading from his book as part of the Fish in the Reads Festival on 1st February 2022.

Dominic Garnett

Hailed as ‘Britain’s most promising young angling writer’ (Angling Times), Dominic Garnett has a huge following for his informative and entertaining writing as an angling all-rounder with over 200 articles and several published books to his name in the UK and abroad.

Unsurprisingly, therefore, we are so excited to be hearing a reading from and discussion around his bestselling book, ‘FlyFishing for Coarse Fish’ on 1st March 2022.

In 2022, this series is proudly supporting the Anglers Against Pollution Campaign with an optional donation for each event.

Bookable for free on the Orvis UK Eventbrite, Fish in the Reads offers the chance to meet the author, hear them read an extract from their book, and learn more about the inspiration behind the words.

Adrian Woolford, Managing Director at Orvis UK said, “We are delighted to be welcoming people for a second time to join in celebrating some of the UK’s most prolific fly fishing and conservation writers this year. By listening, learning, and sharing stories in a relaxing environment, the Fish in the Reads Series is the perfect opportunity for people to connect with others who share in our passion for fly fishing. Not only this, but in creating a communicative, open space like this, we are encouraging a wider, essential conversation about our environment, and the conservation of it.”

The festival follows the popular event that took place last year (2021), where for the first time post-lockdown, people gathered to hear the readings of some great authors on the Orvis Kimbridge beat of the River Test. Joined by 30 guests, we listened to authors, David Profumo, Charles Rangeley-Wilson, Luke Jennings and Simon Cooper, reading from and discussing their books. Compered by Dr Mark Wormald, College Lecturer at Pembroke, Cambridge, the authors entertained guests with readings, book signings and Q&A's covering a range of environmental, fly fishing and literary topics.

For a full schedule of readings, visit and book your place for free via the Orvis UK Eventbrite. Once booked, attendees will receive a link to the platform up to 48 hours ahead of the event date and time.
