Abbots Worthy Beat Booking - Grayling Period

Come and spend a day on one of our highly coveted stretches of the Test, and step far back in angling history, to a time when the pace of life allowed for a deep enjoyment of time on the river.

Booking Type

Individual Rods from £55

Our Abbots Worthy beat on the River Itchen is about a third of a mile with single and double bank fishing. It is the most challenging of our pieces of water for casting and stalking, as it is clear all year round with good aquatic fly life providing plenty of hatches, including Iron Blue and Large Dark Olive in good numbers and even the rare Turkey Brown.

Most of the River Itchen is a conservation area under SSSI management and the beat is no longer stocked, to help grow the wild fish population. We are promoting catch and release on this stretch to preserve its native brown trout.

Please note: For the Grayling Period, we only accept individual rod bookings - an individual rod on the beat on the chosen day. You can select the number of rods you require while booking - the number of available places is shown on the date selection page, and the option to select the number of rods required is presented on the customer details page. No minimum rod limit per booking. Maximum of 3 individual rod bookings per day. Exclusive use of the beat is not guaranteed as there may be other individual rod bookings using the beat on the same day.

Wading

Wading is not required, however good wading is available at the bottom mill-end near the beat entrance. Wading accessibility is dependent on water levels. Breathable chest waders are recommended. Use of a wading staff and flotation aid are also advisable when wading.

We have also brought together some of our top selling products in our Chalkstream Collection, perfect for wherever you might be fishing.

Will there be other people on the beat at the same time?

If you've bought an individual rod there may be other people fishing at the same time.

If you have booked exclusive use, your party will be the only people fishing for the day.

The date or day I want to book is unavailable for the type of booking I require, can you help?

Our availability is live, if your preferred date is unavailable, please contact our sporting adventures team on sportingadventures@orvis.co.uk, or 01264 349515.

I'd like to book a bespoke experience on the beat e.g. special occasions or corporate days, can you help?

Yes! Please contact our bookings team who will be happy to help design your day.

Is the beat wheelchair friendly?

All of our beats offer limited wheelchair access however, by their nature, riverbanks are uneven, natural surfaces.

Can I bring my own guide for the day?

No. However, we do offer a guided service. For exclusive bookings this can be selected during booking. For individual rods, please contact our bookings team.

Can I bring my dog?

Service dogs are of course permitted, however we would request that you do not bring any other family pets for the day, as this can create difficult situations on the riverbank.

What should I do if I need to cancel my booking?

Please refer to the Orvis Day Lettings: Terms and Conditions for our cancellation policy.
