Fly tying is creative, highly rewarding and wonderfully fun activity to share with friends and family. Whether you want to catch fish on your own flies or just enjoy the craft side of fly dressing, this 3-week course will introduce the tools, materials & techniques needed to tie your own flies.

Both sessions of our Fly-Tying School offer the same content but with seasonal twists,. All ages & abilities are welcome - under 18s are more than welcome to attend the Orvis Fly Tying School, however they must be accompanied at all times by a parent or guardian.

All equipment, materials and refreshments are provided.

School Location: Stockbridge, Hampshire

Summer School: Sunday 14th July, Sunday 21st July and Sunday 28th July 2024. 
Autumn School: Sunday 13th October, Sunday 20th October and Sunday 27th October 2024.

Time: 10:30am-12:30pm

PROGRAMME

10:30 - Arrive and meet your host at Orvis Stockbridge. Tea, coffee and refreshments provided.
10:45 - Instructor led fly tying
12:30 - Tie things off and take home your hand tied flies

Session 1: Introduction to basic fly-tying tools, materials and skills.

Get familiar with your vice, thread control and adding additional materials to tie classic patterns.

Session 2: Successfully using synthetics, feather and fur.

Gain confidence and craftmanship using more materials to create life-like lures and dry flies.

Session 3: Creating shape and form.

Extend your skills by learning to create adaptable new body features such as legs, wings and tails.
