Lewis' CDC Midge Emerger
Lewis Midge Emerger
One of Gareth’s all-time favourite patterns — and likely the favourite — for his home waters, the rivers Usk and Monnow in South Wales. Though named a “midge” emerger, it perfectly embodies the all-and-nothing concept, representing a wide range of small emergers and midges.
Constructed from a simple list of materials — thread body, Parapost Yarn wing buds, Eco Warrior Dub thorax, and a CdC wing — this fly has been on Gareth’s tippet for over two decades. The Czech Nymph hook gives excellent film penetration and the strength needed for larger trout.
If Gareth could choose only one dry fly pattern to fish for the rest of his life, this would be it.
