Cookie Policy

What is a Cookie?

Cookies are small pieces of data, stored in text files, that are stored on your computer or other device when websites are loaded in a browser. They are widely used to “remember” you and your preferences, either for a single visit (through a “session cookie”) or for multiple repeat visits (using a “persistent cookie”). They ensure a consistent and efficient experience for visitors, and perform essential functions such as allowing users to register and remain logged in. Cookies may be set by the site that you are visiting (known as “first party cookies”), or by third parties, such as those who serve content or provide advertising or analytics services on the website (“third party cookies”).

Both websites and HTML emails may also contain other tracking technologies such as “web beacons” or “pixels.” These are typically small transparent images that provide us with statistics, for similar purposes as cookies. They are often used in conjunction with cookies, though they are not stored on your computer in the same way as cookies. As a result, if you disable cookies, web beacons may still load, but their functionality will be restricted.

Flash cookies, also known as local shared objects, are designed to support browser content supported by Adobe® Flash. They are usually used to enable ads and video content on websites. Like other cookies, they will store information on your device, some of which will be specific to the Flash-enabled content. Flash cookies can only be deleted within Adobe Flash rather than via your browser.

By continuing to browse our site, you consent to our placing cookies on your computer.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF COOKIES USED ON ORVIS.CO.UK

Session (or Transient) Cookies

Session cookies are stored in your computer's memory for the length of your browsing session. When your session has been inactive for a time, they become inaccessible and are automatically deleted from your computer when the browser is closed. They enable you to move from page to page without having to log-in repeatedly.

Persistent (or Permanent) Cookies

Persistent cookies are stored in the user's computer memory and are not deleted when the browser is closed. They are used to remember your preferences for next time you visit the website. They are also used to collect information about the numbers of visitors per page, the average time spent on a particular page and to analyse shopping behaviour on the website. This information helps us to find out how well the website is working and highlights where it can be improved.

Third Party Cookies

Orvis works with various third-party vendors, such as Shopify and Rakuten Advertising, to provide additional content and services. These companies may also set cookies on our behalf.

Behavioral Advertising Cookies

Cookies are used to advertise relevant products to you on other websites, based on the products and categories you looked at on orvis.co.uk. This is referred to as “Behavioral Advertising.” Our behavioral advertising vendor is Mediamath. Read more information about Mediamath.

Data contained in the cookie used in these adverts is anonymous and doesn't contain any of your personal details. You can opt out of these adverts using the Network Advertising Initiative website opt-out form.

Please note: When you opt out of Mediamath behavioral advertising, a cookie will be set on your browser. They must maintain the cookie on your browser in order to recognise you as an opted-out visitor. You must opt out again if you clear that cookie from your browser, use a different internet browser, or use a new computer to access the internet.

SHARING WITH SOCIAL NETWORKS

If you wish to share products and content with your friends via social networks like twitter and facebook, these companies may set a cookie on your computer. Find out more about these using the following links.
