Scotland is often considered the birthplace of modern fly fishing, with its crystal-clear rivers and challenging yet rewarding conditions. Among its many renowned fishing regions, Deeside and Speyside stand out as prime destinations for those seeking to catch the legendary Atlantic salmon.

The River Dee, meandering through the picturesque Cairngorms National Park, is known for its perfect fly water. Meanwhile, the River Spey is famed for its majestic surroundings and big Atlantic salmon.

What makes these regions so appealing is the rivers paired with the surrounding landscape—rolling hills, ancient woodlands, and tranquil views that make a day on the water feel like an escape to nature.

Whether you’re an experienced angler or new to the sport, the charm of these areas is undeniable, and the promise of catching salmon is always at the forefront of any trip.

The prime time to fish for salmon in Deeside and Speyside runs from late spring to autumn. The season typically begins in February or March, though the best catches are often between June and September, as salmon are more likely to be running during these warmer months.

Fly fishing for salmon is an experience that blends skill, patience, and an appreciation for nature. The opportunity to fish in such storied waters, surrounded by some of Scotland’s most breathtaking landscapes, makes this activity truly unique.
