Spend a full day learning the essentials of fly fishing in a supportive, welcoming environment. This one-day school is designed to build confidence and give beginners a strong practical foundation in casting, fly choice and understanding the basics of fishing on a river.

All fishing equipment is provided. Lunch not included.

What to Expect:
A fun and relaxed day with friendly Orvis instructors, all the fly-fishing kit you’ll need, on-site parking, refreshments and a toilet available. You’ll get plenty of guidance, time to practice and the chance to start fishing with confidence.

Ideal for anyone who has completed an FF101 or is new to river fly fishing. With only eight places and a 4:1 student-to-instructor ratio, you’ll receive personalised coaching and a relaxed introduction to fly fishing on rivers.

Meet your instructors. Introductions and safety briefing. 

Get to know your kit

  • What kit to choose and how to set it up correctly
  • Terminal tackle – Leader choice and tippet selection.
  • Bugs & Beasts – starting to decode fly selection 

Learn how to cast a fly line

  • Cover the basics of casting – holding the rod, body position
    and biomechanics
  • The roll cast 
  • Pick up and lay down 

Time for Casting Practice

Start to master casting and retrieving a fly line, with coaching.

Putting theory into practice

  • Convert casting into fishing
  • Fish holding areas
  • Decoding surface disturbance, seams and slack areas.

Any time of the season can be good.

Is accommodation included?

No, but we will be delighted to advise on accommodation locally.

How many people will be attending?

A maximum of 8 with two qualified instructors.

What is the cancellation policy?

30 days notice is required to ensure that your deposit it refunded. However, late cancellations are taken on their merit.
